I have a big desk …

When we moved into this house three years ago, I was blessed with my own office (with ocean view!!) and a garden in the backyard. Michael made the office even cooler by building me a gorgeous desk out of 100-year-old reclaimed fir. He made the desk to fit the exact dimensions of the room.

It was beautiful. It was perfect. I loved my desk.

I imagine spreading out index cards and images and brainstorming, and generally occupying the entire, decedent space.

Instead, this is what a typical writing day looks like around there:

That’s me in the far right corner attempting to work on my newest novel. I am pretty much allowed the space of my keyboard, though today I had to  fight for even that much. Not complaining — much — cats do rule the world, at least around here.

  1. If you give them something even higher than your desk to sit on, they will go there and clear the table most of the time…like a rack of shelves in that corner there.

    1. I was thinking of a quarter round-ish stack right in that window corner. that would catch some sun.

Also, I have a basket on the desk and they tend to plunk in there.

If you put something on the desk to reach the level of the sill, a tray, basket or bed would fit there nicely.

Cats are pretty good at going where you want them to go, as long as it is even better than where they are. It’s the going to worse places that that they don’t see the point of.

      1. Makes sense! They have a box that has been on the back kitchen counter for months now that they also alternate spending hours in… every time I think about finally recycling it, I find one of them curled up in it!
