Misprint giveaway #3

GIVEAWAY CLOSED. Winners: Megan from Chicago, Linda from Wisconsin (which might be a first for me), and Michelle from New Jersey!

To recap a second time. I had fifteen misprinted paperbacks. The covers of the paperbacks were all oddly tinted to various degrees with pink and red. And, in a few, the top and bottom margins shift down or up around the halfway point. Since I’m a fan of decluttering, I thought I should give these ‘rarities’ away.

Remember these?

I given away eight so far.

I’ll autograph and label the books as misprints. I’ll even throw in an I See Me postcard and some butterfly tattoos.

Would you like one of THREE chances to own one of these misprinted, but still pretty, Dowser 1 paperbacks?

  1. “I twisted away again, retching the contents of my stomach onto the sidewalk. What an awful waste of an expensive meal”
I’m so glad she got over this reaction, but I love that her thought was the same as mine.

  2. Love having another chance to have a ‘hands on’ set of your wonderful books for my library. Here’s a quote I really like. Why? Because it’s thrilling!
Kett grinned, ” I shall enjoy draining you, witch. It’s been a hundred years since I’ve hunted so freely. And I’ve never tasted magic like yours.” ……..I ran. I didn’t have a chance in hell. His fingers brushed my hair. I hadn’t even taken a second step.

  3. We danced. And danced. The magic circled around us, spinning and kissing. I threw my head back and laughed. The dancers closest to me howled in response — the sound thrilling but terrifyingly inhuman — and pressed closer. Wolves. Werewolves, to be exact. A chill ran down my spine, cutting through the heat generated by the dance. Magical beings, not just magic users like Sienna, Rusty, and I. No wonder they tasted so strongly.

This is where Hudson and “McGrowley” gets introduced. I like the scene, after that I was hooked. There are a lot of favorites this has become one of my favorite series. I stopped reading whatever I was reading soon as I saw the next book.

  4. #1.) “I haven’t ever seen a bruise like that on a human. Not one alive, anyway.”
#2.) Shows the reader (me) even more that Jade in not half – human.

  5. My favorite quote is the prologue:

If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it. That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.

I especially love the last part – it really is a universal truth that chocolate and cupcakes are part of the best things in life. It’s good to remember that simple pleasures make life better.

I can’t wait for the next book. Thanks for great books and a great contest!

  6. Autographed, one-of-a-kind books? Awesome!
I love the the interaction as Jade gets to know the other Adepts. As she relaxed after yoga “…I was happy I’d taken the class, and not even remotely worried about the werewolves stalking me. I was quite sure wolves didn’t do yoga with someone they were planning to maim.”

  7. One of my faves was early – and should have given insight into Sienna’s character then: Sienna shrugged again. “A girl needs pocket money, and even the normals know there’s something special about your creations.”

Sienna was clearly in tune with the fact that Jade was far superior to her in natural skills and abilities – in crafting AND baking. The jealousy is just bubbling under the surface…

I love the fact that, on National Siblings Day, you made such a great illustration of “sisters” (adopted, though they may be), and you caught me up in the story then. In fact, I’d started reading #4 and realized I had no clue who Rochelle was – so had to go back and am loving “I See Me”.

    1. Entry # 8 – I think it’s also important to note that Sienna loved Jade in her way … she asks Jade to join her numerous times. Jade has always been with her for all the other terrible times and adventures … [spoiler] which is why Jade holds out hope even at the end of book three, hoping that if she takes away the influence of the black magic … but … sigh.

  8. When Desmond tells Jade that she owes him a life debt and he intends to collect. You finally start seeing some power from Jade and you know this is going to link them

  9. “Yes, Sienna. I was giving a vampire a blow job, because that’s all vamps really want from a girl.”
    I love Jades attitude!

  10. I thought about ripping his head off, but then dismissed the idea. Where was a good cupcake when I needed one?

Yup… been there myself. I could definitely relate.

  11. “I lowered my eyes to nestle a sixth cupcake into the box I was currently packing. Maybe if I ignored him, he’d go away? Because that always worked, right?”

I love how understated this is, and how it situates this kind of thing as something that isn’t all THAT out of the ordinary. She’s treating it like any other problem, reasonably big but she’s in that frame of mind where she can just sort of push it aside and hope it’ll fix itself LoL. I crashed through the whole book in about two days while I was on holiday with my sister!

  12. I’ve ever seen a bruise like that on a human not alive anyway
As a reader this pulls you deeper into the story I couldn’t put my phone down I like Jade

  13. ‘I had been going for a French provincial look, but with the addition of the slat wood floor and the hodgepodge of trinkets hanging everywhere, I’d achieved more farmhouse than sleek old country.’
There is so much I love about this book but I had to pick only one for this week. I choose this because I just love the description of her shop. The Cake in a Cup is her happy place and I feel a connection to what I picture it must look like. I want to visit there. Weekly/daily.

  14. I quickly fell into the peaceful rhythm of baking, my hands moving and mixing while my mind and eyes were on the next ingredient. I was a particular fan of icing, sometimes piling it high enough to double the height of the cupcake. My grandmother often dropped in when I was baking as I still did five out of seven days a week. She said watching me bake was like watching an adept witch work a spell.

This is the same way I feel while baking, and what ultimately hooked me in!

  15. Not to be a bother, but I don’t see my quote. Entered it yesterday about 4 p.m. CST. Did it disappeared into the aether?

      1. Yeah, who knows? I just decided to write a new response and not worry about the first one.

  16. I was stymied last time you asked for a. quote, because I don’t have an absolute favorite. In fact, I enjoy the gestalt of it all so much that I almost don’t perceive the individual phrases. But then I went back and re-read book one with a focus on which turn of a phrase appealed to me in and out of context. The list was long and varied, ranging from humor to rich descriptions that I could taste to haunting moments to so much more.

I have seen several of my standouts already reflected here in other respondents’ posts. I find it amusing that we gravitate to similar choices. So I went with one not yet mentioned:
“Monsters slid in and out of the dark all around me … how the hell did I get here again.”
This reflection appears during the “rescue” of Sienna. I think it epitomizes Jade in some respects. From this moment forward, she exists in an uncertain world with monsters, friend and foe, prowling around her. Sometimes she stops and wonders “where am I going and why am I in this hand basket?” And sometimes she just saves the day.

Thank you for a wonderfully rich world with deep, well-developed characters and tangible imagery.

  17. I shuddered at the thought of such a life, jaded by fantastical magic. That drew Kett’s attention. “What are you waiting for, witch?”“I was hoping for a nap.”“

This is just one of many of her fantasicly snide comments thatnI absolutely love.
