The [belated] anniversary of Terry Pratchett’s passing

GIVEAWAY CLOSED. WINNER TBA

Sir Terry Pratchett passed away a year ago on March 12, 2015.

I blogged about his passing here.

For the [belated] anniversary of his death I would like to celebrate his work by hosting a giveaway for a copy of Wintersmith, which was the first book of his that I ever read. I’m slightly peeved that I’m ‘belated’ with this post – I did have a warning in my calendar that somehow let me down – but better late than never!

Wintersmith kindle cover

To celebrate Sir Terry’s life and his work, I would like to buy Wintersmith for one of you – for kindle, or iBooks, or Kobo, or in paperback. You name the format and I’ll buy it.

Comment below to enter. Tell me your favourite book of Sir Terry’s, or why you’d like to read Wintersmith specifically, or if you’ve read Wintersmith already who you’d like to gift it to (and why).

RIP Sir Terry Pratchett. Thank you for the entertainment, the inspiration, and for the strong women and inspiring world you created.

Notes/Rules: OPEN INTERNATIONALLY. Each comment will be assigned an entry number. ONE winning entry will then be selected via random number generator. One entry per person. Please make sure to fill out a valid email address in the comment form. Email addresses are not collected for any purpose other than notifying the contest winner.

If you haven’t commented on the blog before, or you comment from a different IP address, the comments are moderated. So don’t worry if you don’t see your entry right away. I will approve it, then assign it an entry number.

Giveaway closes TUESDAY, MARCH 22, 2016 at 8 p.m. PDT.

  1. I adored Terry’s writing. Hubby used to humph when I read any as I’d sit there snickering into the cover of the books lol.

I’ve read all Disc world and loved the Tiffany Aching ones with the Wee Free Men…..these are for young adults and I AM in my mind lol if not in body 😉 and these books had me lol and peeing off the hubster (insert wicked evil laugh here) with laughing even more 😀

I have all the books, but I wanted to only share my love of his writing…………..I really wish Death would bring him back to us, but I’ve a feeling he’s having too good a time to come back 😉

  2. I am constantly searching for a good read and to date have not read one of Sir Terry’s books. As it comes on recommendation by you i think even if i do not win this i will purchase it anyways. Thank you for giving me a new author.

  3. I don’t think it’s possible for me to pick one Terry Pratchett book as a favorite because I love all his work, but Tiffany Aching and the Wee Free Men and Mort are definitely my favorite characters.

  4. I have re-read WYRD SISTERS more than any other Terry Pratchett book. I love Granny. She makes me laugh out loud. The scene where the witches attend the play is sheer genius & brilliantly funny.

  5. My favorite authors just published new books, which I’ve already read. I need something to read till Dowser 6 comes out. I’ve never read his books before.

  6. Don’t boo me too much! I have never read anything by Sir Terry Pratchett. Lately I haven’t been able to read much. It’s soccer and gymnastics season…tear😢. So I would love to win, and you can pick the best book for me to read.

  7. I was 17 years old (21 years ago now) and my mum had recently met her now husband. I was working in a curtain shop, and very shortly after starting work I found out I was pregnant for the first time. I hated reading all the reading I had done was for school and I rarely picked up a book I believe moonwalker by Michael Jackson was the last book I’d read cover to cover. My step dad to be said, “have you read Terry Pratchett? You should he’s brilliant I think you would like this.” And handed me a copy of witches abroad. I loved it, I laughed out loud while at work and at home. I had found it my genre, fantasy. From then on I’ve been reading more and more, and for this reason Witches abroad has to be my favorite as it got me into reading once again!!!

  8. I think The Wee Free Men might be my favorite Pratchett book. It’s just such a fun one, plus I love the cover…

  9. The day I found out I was pregnant was the day I started reading out loud to my children. We have read Harry Potter, Spiderwick, Lemony Snicket, Charlie Bone, and Percy Jackson to name a few. We read during road trips and just a couple more pages past their bedtimes. I believe their favorite showed up in kilts, drinking and covered in blue. They loved the Wee Free Men. We haven’t read Wintersmith and I would like to share that with them.

  10. Lords and ladies is one of many of my Favorites. I just love Granny Weatherwax and her attitude. I’ve never read his book Wintersmith but I would love to. All his books got me through a rough marriage.

  11. I have never read one of Sir Terry’s books but I’ve now gotten to read a few short excerpts of his books and they sound intriguing. I will definitely purchase one now. Thank you for introducing me to his work.

  12. I have never read a Terry Pratchett book, but as an aerospace engineer, a lot of my friends and colleagues really like fantasy and science fiction. My facebook feed exploded with new of his death and everyone sharing stories about his books. I want to share in that excitement, and honor a man who obviously touched a lot of people with his books.

  13. I would love to be selected for this prize. I have, sadly, never read one of his books. They have bee recommended to me but I’ve never read any.

  14. I’ve never read Wintersmith so I looked it up online to see what it was about. A perfect book for this time of year when some are still waiting for spring to come. I’ve had his books on my to read list for years and own some but haven’t read any but HogFather which I love. I get it out at Christmas and read it either before or after watching the movie based on it.
