The day after releasing Dowser 9.

The day after releasing Gemstones, Elves, and Other Insidious Magic (Dowser 9). My 18th novel.

The sun is shining (though it is chilly) and I’m back in my writing shed, treadmill rolling underfoot, hot chocolate in hand, to write an utterly thankful post to all of you who have supported me, my work, my dreams, and the words that haunt me until they make it onto the page and are released into the world.

I am utterly blessed.

Tired, drained, but completely content this morning.

It’s been slightly difficult year. Things are shifting in the indie publishing world, sales are down across the board for any author who is unwilling to play in the Kindle Unlimited pool, and it is getting more and more difficult to reach even the readers who have indicated they want to be notified of new books, etc, let alone building up a readership. So I am also shifting, trying new things, and in 2019 I’m going to be expanding – via the audiobooks and launching two, possibly three new series, as well as trying a few new ventures – giving Amplifier 0 away for free on my blog chapter by chapter (starting Jan 8), being part of an author bundle (also in January), going more ‘traditional’ with some new book covers, attending the Nebulas in May, etc.

But yesterday and this morning, I know that no matter what I have planned for the future, I have already found a lovely, supportive reader base. And I’m so thankful that you are on this journey with me. So, so thankful.

Today, I have this blog post to write, and nine giveaways to package up – from the release day party yesterday – but I might actually take it easy for the rest of the day. Some reading and knitting sound perfect.

Tomorrow I’ll dig into the third draft of Amplifier 0.5 (preorder novelette) and Amplifier 1. And hopefully I’ll get my hands on the proof of the paperback for Dowser 9 soon because I have some swag boxes to fill!!

And after that?

The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0), Chapter One, Part One, drops HERE on January 8, 2019. Yep. As a thank you and a way of introducing you to the Amplifier herself, I’m giving away the prequel novella (38K) for free over a series of weeks on my blog. It will be available on stores after that, of course. But I’ll thought it might be fun to build to the release of book 1 and hopefully have a conversation about the world and the characters along the way. I promise to post (and email if you are on either of my mailing lists) about it in more detail closer to the date.

In 2019, I’ll be releasing Amplifier 1 and 2, along with prequel short stories. Then in some order (depending on what I write and when I write it) Misfits of the Adept Universe – Mory’s 1st book, Jasmine Bytes – Jasmine’s first book, and Amplifier 3. And maybe, just maybe … I’m toying with an idea for Oracle 4, but I need to have conversation about how to launch it (it might actually be better combined into the Misfits series because of the jump in time since Oracle 3), so this might not happen, or it might just be a passion project … We shall see!!

But for now, thank you, thank you, thank you – for buying the books, yes. But also for reviewing and sharing and reading through your library, for talking about them with your friends and family, and all your interactions with me online.

You all completely rock!

December 5, 2018 – the view from my office window – feeling very blessed.

  1. My daughter actually got me to read the Dowser series. She and I both read the books at the same time so that we can discuss them without any spoilers. Now that we live in different states, we are going to facetime as much as possible while reading Dowser 9 and drinking a glass of wine together. I can’t express how much your books have brought my daughter and I closer. I can’t wait to explore the new Amplifier series with her and all of your other future books.

I think you are an amazing person and an amazing writer. Here’s to more adventures through your fantastically awesome imagination that you share with all of us …🍾🍸🎉💖

  2. What a lovely note! I rarely stay with a series as long as I’ve been with yours. Thank you for making it such an exciting journey!

  3. I finished book 9 last night – I tried to make it last rather than devouring it in one session. When I had read the last words I just sighed in contentment. It was a perfect ending to the series (so far, I still hope for more adventures with Jade in the future) and just so satisfying. A wonderful read Meghan, keep on doing what you are doing and I will keep buying your delightful books! Thanks for sharing your journey as a writer with us as well, it has been a joy to be in contact with you.

  4. Thank you Meghan for making all your series so easy to love and share!!! My mother and I are fans for life..and tell anyone thats a “reader” and looking for something to read all about you and your lovely books!!! Looking forward to everything!!
P.s. I won’t tell my mom about a possible Oracle 4…I’d hate to get her hopes up just yet…
    Much love and appreciation ~Amy

  5. Thank you for writing the Adept Universe for us to inhale lol. I love love it and can’t wait for your next one😍💖

  6. Meghan, Thank You. I have D9, just waiting a few more days to read if during recovery from shoulder replacement surgery. I know I will be sad to let the Dowser Series go, but anxious to read all the Amplifier installments you create for us. Oracle, Dowser, Amplifer, your creativity, imagination and willingness to share your feeling with us make you a friend in so many ways. So thank you.
The view from your office shed is stunning.

  7. Meghan, thank you for gifting us with your writing. Saving D9 for the weekend (a difficult task) so I can savor the book. Looking forward to the Amplifier weekly installments: it will be fun!

  8. Thank you for writing!!!! I love this series, and the whole Adept world concept and rules!! I’m so excited to hear about future projects and I will definitely be buying whatever you’re writing!!

  9. Congratulations on Novel #18! I look forward to reading it soon. You deserve a well-earned day off to enjoy your hot chocolate and knitting. Like the others, I will be sad to see the end of the Dowser series. However, I also enjoyed the Reconstructionist series and I look forward to the Misfits. I hope that you can find a successful strategy for promoting and selling your books in the year ahead. I understand that Amazon can be a blessing and a curse when it comes to marketing and sales. Hopefully, your plans for 2019 will provide you with the great success you deserve for your dedication to your craft and your hard work.

Just as an FYI, I was travelling in Washington State a while ago, and while walking around Olympia for my early morning exercise, I came across a shop called “Mystical Cupcakes” and immediately thought of the Dowser series. I really wanted to go into the store and buy a cupcake, but it wasn’t open. ;-(

All the best to you for 2019. Thanks for all the hours of great reading material!

    Corinne

    1. No. The Amplifier is Emma aka Fox in Socks aka Amp5. If Gabby gets a story it would be folded into the Misfits of the Adept Universe. But the Amplifier Series is set in the Adept Universe. So, starting in book two you might see some characters you recognize. 😊

  10. I’m in the middle of D9, adore it as I have each book you’ve conjured from your wonderful, brilliant mind.

The Dowser series has come, or will do when I finish it, to an end, but with new ones on the horizon 2019 promises to be a brilliant year.

Also hoping we’ll catch a glimpse or three of Jade as the books fly by!

Right, to slowly, carry on reading.

    Thank you 💗💗

  11. I love the Dowser series and all of the Adept universe books you have released to date. You have an amazing ability to draw people into that universe and make it so real. You are at the top of my “must have” list along with with the likes of Terry Brooks and the late Robert Jordan. Whatever you choose to write, I will read. So so chuffed to have found such a talented, in touch author. I look forward to many more adventures in the adept Universe. Thank you Meghan!

  12. Hooray! This is all so exciting! I find it VERY easy to support you because your writing is FANTASTIC. You deliver scene, character and plot developments so well it’s ALWAYS enjoyable to read your work. And not just the Dowser and spin off series (Rochelle, Wisteria, etc) but also your handful of other novels. You wrote a fantastic post apocalyptic novel, then shuffled down a magic imbued pseudo fantasy, and THEN jumped down the gullet of current, i guess they call it urban, fiction. Your range is bonkers dope. Keep going!!!

    1. Ha, ha. Yes. It took me a little while to figure out what playground I wanted to play in. So glad you’ve enjoyed all my books. 😊

  13. I actually took my time reading Dowser 9. I made myself step away and fold the laundry, or load the dishwasher. Lol! I just didn’t want this series to end. I really, really love Jade’s character and what she has become. (I hope more audiobooks are on the way). Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, Meghan! Really looking forward to your new endeavors!

  14. Here is a Thank you coming right back at you. I have read Dowser 9 multiple times since release and still find it awesome. I don’t know if I found you on one of the book services for new authors, like Bookbub, bookgorilla, or Thefussylibrarian or just one of the Amazon specials, but I am thankful every time I read your stories. Dowser 9 is no exception. It was excellent. Authors with your talent are rare, so I will be following and purchasing from you for many years to come.

  15. Meghan, I have loved all your books and 100% sure I will continue to love all that you write over the coming years. It’s a pleasure interacting with you and my fellow fans … I hope that we all continue to support and *adore* you … queue the laughter and applause … lol.

  16. Thank you for writing. I love all your books and the characters almost feel like friends now. Your plots are superb and never follow the expected. Please know that you are appreciated and your readers will support you.
Have a great Christmas and a very happy, healthy and successful new year

  17. I really enjoyed Dowser 9, and it was so cathartic to see Jade’s story end in peace, surrounded by her friends. I wanted to write to tell you that, for me, the part in the book where Blossom prepares Jade for battle resonated with me. It was such an amazing moment of quiet before the storm. It reminded me of that moment before a wedding between mother and daughter, but for Jade it was more fitting that it was a precursor to battle and that it was Blossom, her caregiver and probably the most traditionally maternal figure in her life. It was just lovely, almost meditative to read.
