Hard to pick just one but I can relate to this one in a way. ‘ ” I’m not some interesting bug!” ‘

Might not be my favorite… But it’s a fabulous example if Grans character and how she is always “the boss”, so to speak. Sets a precident for what to expect from her in the future.

This is just typical Jade, love it!

“Power up, wolf,” I said. “It’s time to dance.” Kandy laughed. “I like it when you dance, dowser.” “Everyone likes it when Jade dances,” Kett said from the shadows to my left. “Is it like when she fights?” Drake asked. “Because that’s pretty cool.” “Hush, youngling,” Kandy said. “The elders are being inappropriate.”

I love how naive Drake is in inappropriate situations!! He just got finished being excited at the prospect of fighting demons!! 🤣🤣🤣 One of my favorite secondary characters!!

The beginning of Jade and ‘the green haired werewolf’. Love this friendship that overrides everything else. It started in book one and entrigued me throughout the series.
I was the downer. I was the wielder of the instruments of assassination. I was Jade Godfrey.
“Is Kett … dead?” “Not any more than he was before,” Desmond said without smiling. It was a joke nonetheless; lame shifter humor, I supposed. I didn’t laugh either but Kandy snorted, even with her back turned. ~ Treasures, Demons, and other Black Magic

“Yes, Sienna. I was giving a vampire a blow job, because that’s all vamps really want from a girl.”
I was being stalked by an obviously insane vampire. It didn’t get much more terrifying than that.

I have 2 favorite quotes, both from Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic (Dowser 3).
The first from Kandy when she is “explaining” to Jade, who she (Jade) is; “That’s easy. You’re Jade. You’re cupcakes, trinkets, and deadly magic. Like that knife you carry. Pretty green stones, tasty magic, and deadly.”.
The second is from Kett, the final comment made between Jade and Kett regarding having to end Sienna’s life. Kett states; “But I would for you, Jade.”.
I just think the simplicity of both quotes, show the depth of love that flows between these characters … Jade, Kandy, Kett, will hold a place in my heart, just slightly above HP⚡
There are many really good quotes throughout. For me, the ones that stick with me are the whole entry into the series… forward and beginning of chapter 1 of Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic. This set a wonderful stage to start knowing this character Jade. How normal her thoughts were at this point “Maybe if I ignored him, he’d go away. Because that always worked, right?” But perhaps the best is in the forward…”Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.”
Ahh I can’t get to my books right now! but it’s after Kandy goes pink and Jade thinks it’s cute but can’t tell her. or maybe the first time Jade called Kandy her bf. Or when she makes jade wear the sarong and sandals. Or when Jade gets all the gifts in prison.. the peppermint gum 💕 Or the banter after Jade saves everyone when she first channels the magic into the stones at the skinwalkers campfire. Or after the caves in Peru at the end when she says she thinks a ancient vamp might be in love with her💕💕💕 soooo many great moments with characters I love!! Sorry I can’t direct quote, I’m not home with my books.

If you’d ask me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of manic wielded-the Adept- was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it. That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you- a completely skewed sense of reality.
