  1. I’m not sure I could choose between Christopher and Paisley. I love that they give Emma freedom, security and unconditional friednship…

  2. I actually love all the new characters but if I have to pick one…
Aiden is sexy and intriguing, you just know he has a tortured, dark backstory. I love how his character is unfolding, revealing little bits at a time.

  3. Paisley because I am interested to see what additional shenanigans and demon dog can get into!

  4. Love the cards! I really like Emma and find her quite relatable. As a firstborn daughter, I am familiar with the feeling of being reluctantly responsible. I enjoy participating in her inner struggles as she continues to find balance in her new world. And as a side note, you are making cold snuggly winters sound really good to this California girl.
    Write on!

  5. Although it seems obvious, Emma is my favorite. Strong women on many levels who has a lot of inner conversation and observation before she speaks. Already started the book, will finish it after surgery today. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to!

    1. Wow, so many others loving Paisley!! I do adore a demon dog! So, amongst non-demon dog characters, Iโ€™d have to say Emma/Socks. I just love her take no prisoners style of commitment, and her love of tea and ginger snaps definitely resonates with me.

  6. Well I have to go with Emma.. mostly because I love love a kick ass heroine lol… my husband says its my thing๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’–

  7. I absolutely LOVE Paisley…she is more than a demon dog and I love how she interacts with Emma and Christopher.

  8. Definitely love Paisley. Mostly because I love dogs(who doesnโ€™t?) and I would LOVE to have my very own demon dog. Well, I kind of already do, but sheโ€™s a demon in a different way…

  9. I’m loving the story so far but I think I’m most fond of Christopher. He’s somewhat mysteries still and I like that he’s the calm one, logical, thinks before he acts. The opposite of myself! haha

  10. Just got the new book! Was really looking forward to things heating up for Emma, love her! Also really enjoy that the areas in the books are all places I know living in the lower mainland.

  11. Paisley… Iโ€™ve loved her from the moment Emma rescued her! She is loyal while independent and has her own brand of sass not to mention all her little โ€œtricksโ€!

  12. I love them all, but if I have to choose it would be Paisley. She has almost human attributes and is a part of the family. Cant wait to see what she gets up to next

  13. Paisley is my favorite new character!! What fun to have a pet that can change her appearance any time she wants!!

  14. I like Opal. She reminds me so much of the misfits. I also keep thinking what Candy would say to both her and Jenni. It is a meeting I would love to read.

  15. I love all of your new characters, but Aiden if I am being serious. He brings out a side to Emma that as up to now been unseen and not even considered. I love how he makes her stumble in her head and makes her want more and that she sees something in herself more than she initially thought she had, if you know what I mean ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Christopher. Even I feel protective of him. His devotion to Emma comes shining through your writing. And Paisley. I was so grateful she’s survived the last book! But I would love to see what you continue to do with the Sheriff. That’s an arc that has so much potential as well!

  17. Paisley is my favorite character! Because what’s there not to love about a super smart demon dog!!!

  18. Paisley as she has got so many tricks up her sleeves. And canโ€™t eiat to find out what else she can do

  19. Paisley — and Ed the turtle — I enjoy the unexpected surprise of a pet being an ally and working alongside their partners (you can’t own an adept pet!) — the rambunctiousness of Paisley is just like any other puppy (or demon cat, as I have), and it always brings a smile as well as a knowing nod, yep — my pet does the same thing (except for eating a whole cow?)

  20. Paisley and Aiden. Aiden because I am wondering about where he comes from and Paisley, well any pet is always a favorite.

  21. Hands down fav new character is Paisley. She is smart loyal and hopfully hiding somthing amazing about herself.

  22. I think it might be Christopher…there’s a mystery there, an internal struggle with his gifts, the love for his garden and cooking.

  23. My favourite character has got to be Paisley as I have a weakness for big dogs and I love her attitude – she reminds me of my bullmastiff. If I have to choose a human character Iโ€™d pick Lani – Iโ€™m interested to see the development of her magic

  24. Loved the new book! I would say Emma is my favorite. I love how she is trying to figure out all the social niceties and how to have relationships without killing everyone.

  25. I really like Aiden because I think he can be a great partner for Emma, but I also love Christopher and how much I think Emma underestimates him.

  26. Choosing one character is a hard task when they relate so well to each other in their own ways. But Emmaโ€™s development those far has been one to resonate well with how most people struggle with the constraints of social interactions with each other….(and not just want to kill someone first for not having common sense)

  27. If I absolutely have to choose a favorite new character, Iโ€™d have to say Emma. I love that the Adept Universe is full of strong, and brilliant women. I also really love that Emma wants a safe home for herself, Christopher, and Paisley. She wants to protect them, and I find that both commendable and relatable.

  28. Christopher. He seems so fragile and I want to know more about him. He seems a bit tortured inside.

  29. Eeeee!! I love those cards! Books too obviously ๐Ÿ˜‰ I would say, my favorite new character so far is Aiden. The chemistry between them, the protectiveness he has right away, his understanding and his brokenness…and of course he’s hot as sin in my head!I love your brand of romance and I’m interested to see how he turns out, because it’s going to take a super set of skills to be an equal partner in a relationship with Emma.

  30. I love Aiden heโ€™s dark, kinda edgy, not your typical knight in shining armour type. I love the challenge he presents for Emma and his sense of humour. Besides. Who doesnโ€™t like to see a man fighting demons with a bat ๐Ÿ˜‚ I canโ€™t wait to read more of him.

  31. Christopher is my new favorite because of his ability to find calm and humor in the midst of their new lives.

  32. If I have to choose, my favorite character is Christopher, and how he copes with his gifts. I love all the characters, and look forward to seeing how they develop!

  33. Paisley. Our dog died this past Easter and Paisley is exactly like our Bailey. We even called Bailey โ€œdemon dogโ€! So, Iโ€™d like to see what Paisley gets up to when sheโ€™s out of sight from Emma and Christopher.

I also like Emma and Christopher. I can relate to both of them ( without the super powers of course!)

  34. I really love Christopher. My romantic heart wants him to be with Emma though I know she likes more of a bad boy. But throughout the story I realized more and more that Christopher really is tough! And smart and charming and is a perfect balance for Emma. He keeps her centered so she can be her best.

  35. As many others ahve said, hard to choose one. I like watching Emma’s development, Paisley’s interjection of humor, and Aiden’s presence. What will happen next? I will be buying 2 tonight – I hope I get a chance to at least start it – darn work!!!

  36. I’m out of the giveaway since I haven’t gotten to Amplifier #1 yet… I apparently need to read faster! I love that you added the reading order, that is SUPER helpful (it just means I have a while to go before I get to the first Amplifier book). Also thanks for including the cookbook link in the newsletter… I’ll be veganizing some and sharing with my friends!

  37. My favourite new character is Emma. Her magic is strong and she’s fearless but yet she’s fragile and unsure how to fit in with “normal ” people.

  38. Emma is a Badass, Paisley is the Demon Dog, Christopher is a Puzzle, Aiden is full of Mystery … then there is Jenni. I think she’ll probably be my favorite to discover. Because I’m almost certain her Adept schooling and transformation will include Kandy as a teacher … ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜

  39. Paisley is cool, but I like Christopher. And Emma. And I can’t wait to see what is going on with Aiden. Choose you say? Crap. OK. Emma of course.

  40. So hard to choose a favorite. But it has to be Paisley. I love her loyalty and strength. Can’t wait to see what she does next.

  41. I find all the characters interesting. Emma has to be my favorite as she has strength beyond what she realizes how to control fully yet. She struggles to leave her past behind but knows that is not possible. Because of the past she is afraid to embrace the future and trust her heart.I can hardly wait for her extended family to return to her side and reunite with her through all trials and tribulations she will face.

  42. I really love Aiden. I am a sucker for a dark sexy man who has a past. And I just love a good romance. Oh, and some good rear end kicking action! Your books are never boring! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  43. My favorite new character is Aiden, I like the interaction between him and Emma and how sheโ€™s developing into a more emotionally vested person because of her time spent with him.

  44. My favorite new character? Hmmm, so hard to choose… Emma is the obvious choice; for all the reasons everyone else has listed, yet Christopher is so beautiful; inside & out and Amanda has a great power & personality, plus I’m intrigued with the Lani and Jenni characters; can’t wait to see how they develop. But if I have to choose just one, I’ll go with Emma for now… of course, I reserve the right to change my mind as we get to know the characters better. ๐Ÿ˜

  45. Christopher. He’s enigmatic, but considering the weight of his magic he manages to keep his humanity and also keeps Emma grounded. He loves her without judgement. as someone who yearns for family to accept them, the idea of acceptance pulls me in and wraps me up in a blanket of hope.

  46. I love all the characters, but Opal’s strength and determination through the crazy is so resilient and shows such determination. I am excited to see what happens with Lani.

  47. Paisley! I can’t get enough of her. I am convinced she understands and knows sooo much more!

  48. I love Emma, I just love a strong heroine and am always drawn to them. I do have a soft spot for Paisley though…

  49. Just getting into this series. I love the Dowser series! So far, it looks like Socks is a wicked powerful character. I look forward to finishing the first book and moving on to the rest!

  50. Christopher is the one Iโ€™d like to know more about. Thereโ€™s a combination of vulnerability and extreme power that is fascinating. His devotion is solid and I wish I knew more about how he felt about the world and his place in it.

  51. Okay, so I would have answered this differently prior to reading Bonds & Broken Dreams, BUT, Lani. The way she shows up, jumps in, and then chooses not to forget? “No, Emma. I’m not going to hide from…this…whatever it is.” Fell in love with her right there and then.

  52. Hi I really like Christopher – heโ€™s the sort of friend I would really like and the sort of person I aim to be
    – but Emma and Paisley – they are favourites too – I love your writing because the characters really come to life

  53. Wow! Just finished the book and…thank you, Meghan. Iโ€™m happy! I like Opal and would like to see her grow. I think Jenni has a spine!, Aiden and Emma..and whatโ€™s going to happen to Lani? Chortling Paisly, and Christopher. I canโ€™t choose a favorite. ๐Ÿ˜˜

  54. the new character that interests me is Jenni Raymond. I really want Kandy to show up and straighten out her attitude!

  55. Just finished the book and LOVED it. My favorite character is Paisley and Emma is a close second. I like how Paisley does what she wants but she cares and loves all of her family and always allows more to come in if Emma or Christopher accepts them. With Emma I understand how she can’t get the correct words out that she wants to say and love how she just comes out and says it. Since her and Chris were brought up as assassin the social skills aren’t there like a most normal people. I hope you also keep Opal on, I like the little witch and I think Lani can learn some stuff from her. Jenni well, you need to bring Kandy in and straighten her out. Truthfully I love all the characters. Hope to see Isa killed in the next book. LOVED it and can’t wait to see how the story goes on.

  56. I love them all! I guess Emma is my favourite. I really love her personality and how she care so deeply for those around her. I canโ€™t wait to see what else she gets up to

  57. I like Christopher a lot, for the cards and his sensitivity. But our new magician is very cool too. What a mysterious past you gave him in the first two books. It is his past that intrigues me the most about him. Cannot wait to finish my semester so that I can read the new one!

  58. I loved Opal. She sounded like a real teenager to me, worried about her hair and playing video games with Paisley. I think she is going to give Emma a run for her money, LOL

  59. Have barely started this series but, really excited to get further along!! For now I have to vote for Emma – strong female and all.

  60. There are a lot of likes for Paisley, which is my favorite! A girl always needs a faithful “dog”!

  61. Iโ€™m only half way through the book. Iโ€™m intrigued to learn more about Opal and how sheโ€™s reaching out to Emma.

  62. i love Emma. A strong woman lead is always my favorite. I love seeing her inner thought processes and seeing how she sees

  63. I love this new series..(I am missing Jade Kett and Kandy) I can’t wait to see how these characters meet the warriors daughter.
MY favorite new character is of course Emma (paisley a close 2nd). She took a big step forward emotionally which makes me excited to see what she does after the big talk she had with Aidan! Thank you for your fresh lens on storytelling!

  64. I love Emma. She is incredibly strong and, for someone who never had to deal with emotions in her earlier life, she is doing soo well now. It’s not always easy deciding what to do with you heart and that inner-monologue she has works wonders.

  65. I love both Emma and Christopher. But I usually like your main characters in all of your books. I read your books because of the characters and the story lines. I look forward to your next book.๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿค

  66. Gah…pick just one?!?! I want to more abou them all, but I guess I’m now most intrigued by Lani and Opal.

  67. My favorite person is Jenni! Its killing me that we dont know her background and why she is so weird about her abilities.

  68. As so many others my reply has to be Miss P, before my biggest Want was a dragon, now? Demondoggie all the way!
Why I want to read more about her? Did you miss tjat sheโ€™s a demondog? How can you not want more or that?!?
Keep on writing and I will keep on reading! ๐Ÿ™‚

  69. I love the names from the childrens’ book. Of course Fox in Socks is my favorite. Love that she wants be girly in her dress. Started with that green sundress and now she is into twin set sweaters.

  70. I find Emma to be a character that I am drawn to. The somewhat forced responsibility, first born and internal dialogue. Just something about the character draws me in…

  71. Paisley is my favorite because of his bond with Emma. He may be a rescuer for her or he could be her downfall, but she loves him anyway.

  72. I adore Paisley! She has such a naughty sense of humor! Could you convince someone to make a plush Paisley that I could buy? She would be great to cuddle up with on a cold winter night!

  73. I have not started this series yet… But after reading some of the comments I think I’d lean towards Emma. She sounds like a strong woman who can handle her $#!+. And I love a bad @$$ chick! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

  74. I really enjoy Christopher, I love his connection to the oracle deck and feel like there is a lot more going on there than we know yet.

  75. I love Paisley! I believe she hides many surprises, I love Emma and Aiden, each one bringing a strength and nuance to the other. I would love to see what Lainey and Jenni do with their growing acknowledgment of the magic within.

  76. I appreciate how Christopher helps keep Emma grounded while allowing her the freedom to build a home of her own. However, I would have to say that I cannot wait to read more about Aiden!

  77. At this point in time I am finding myself really relating to Emma. I am not only a firstborn but also a daughter and my mother had her own life so I was the responsible one. But I also really love Paisley! I can’t wait to see what delightful surprises she has coming!

  78. I haven’t gotten a chance to read these yet to be honest. I know they’ll be wonderful characters because you always give us the best.

  79. I haven’t read the new book, but so far for me there are a bunch of characters that I’m loving and would like to see much more of. Aiden, Emma, Paisley, Chris, Lani.. but out of all of them, there’s just something about Lani. I like the potential there. Her latent abilities. She really, really intrigues me. Aiden is a close second. I can’t make up my mind about him at all.

  80. I think Lani is my favourite. like some of the other minor players in the other books, willing to get stuck in even when they don’t really understand what’s going on or how far out of their depth they are.

Just 20% into the new book, loving it so far. I really like the narrative voice and the use of words. I’m reading another book at the moment, really interested in the story, but not invested in the narrative, if that makes sense.

I’m sure all your readers are aware of him, but if not, check out Charles de Lint, my joint favourite Canadian author.

  81. I would have to state that Christopher is my favorite. He has a powerful gift, but it is also a curse. Understating his reasoning for his actions through Emma’s eyes makes him even more intriguing. He is a strong character with integrity in my opinion. Love him!

  82. My favorite character is Emma, the somewhat reluctant heroine. I hope we get to see a few cameos from the other series!
Starting book 2 today, in fact.
