Amplifier 5: the biggest, baddest?

Lani grunted noncommittedly. “Mercury herself is something pretty to look at though. Miles and miles of creamy skin and those white blue wolf eyes.” She flashed me a grin. “I might grab some tea first.”

I shook my head at her, but she sauntered off toward the treats with her hands still stuffed in her back pockets. Far more confident among unknown magic users than I was, even though I was the biggest predator in the room. In the entire area, perhaps.

The silver-haired witch — Pearl Godfrey — was watching me. Her indigo gaze was piercing, but neutral. I couldn’t feel even a hint of power from her. Yet.

It was possible I was wrong about being the biggest, baddest Adept in the library.

– Instincts and Imposters (Amplifier 5), first draft

So … who do you think would win in a one-on-one fight? Pearl or Emma?

Are you new to the Amplifier series? The prequel is The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0). Are you new to the Adept Universe? The first book (in the full reading order) is Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1) and it’s currently free!

  1. I think Emma would but would concede because she cares enough about those around her. So, a tie?

  2. Pearl, no question. Mostly because I bet she knows allll about Emma and her powers but Emma hasn’t had to deal with powerful good witches before

  3. I can’t image a scenario when they would fight. But then, I’m not a supremely talented author and creator of compelling characters.

  4. I think Pearl would win but not kill Emma. If Emma killed pearl then she would have Scarlet and Jade to deal with. She totally lose that one. Hopefully that would never happen

  5. Pearl’s experience is such the fight wouldn’t even happen. Emma would just find herself doing what Pearl asked, haha.

Pure raw power? I’d go with Emma.

    1. SPOILER for Amp 5, since I’ve been listening to the audiobooks.

I love it when authors are such good character writers my predictions are correct, haha. I loved how Pearl and Emma were with each other. Found it funny Emma kept forgetting that Opal is a Godfrey coven witch now, and with all the protections that entails!

  6. I have to pick Emma. She just has to drain Pearl. It would be a good fight though. Plus Pearl has creaky bones.

  7. I would say Emma if Pearl does not have support from Jade or Warner to physically fight for her and keep Emma at a distance if the need arises. Otherwise I would say Pearl.

  8. Emma. But not willingly. She would try to downplay things, then incapacitate Pearl but not kill her.

  9. My first thought is Emma. But I don’t know enough about Pearl to know how she has evolved with her powers as she has matured. I have read all of your series multiple times and a back story about her as a young woman would be cool. I know she is extremely powerful, but how and why? However as many have said, Pearl is too crafty and she would get what she wanted without having to break a sweat. I live for how you overlap characters from other series. Excited to read this! 😉

  10. oh! complete d!! Both have power and skill….. Pearl has age to temper and guide. Emma has the energy of youth. The more crossovers between series has me dancing in my reading chair!!! i cant wait!!!!!

  11. oh!! A complete draw! Both have the power and skill. Pearl has age to temper and guide but Emma has the energy of youth. I have been waiting for more crossovers!! This has me dancing in my reading chair!! only thing better would be to cameo Jade……..

  12. No, Pearl would not fight Emma, her experience and wisdom would prevent that.

Pearl is not a killer. She is a Power, and she has power to spare, but Emma is a trained killer who has killed many Powers well above her weight class. Killer instinct and training would give Emma the nod.

But Emma would not fight Pearl either. She is tired of war, and she knows it would mean war, even if she could win the battle.

All that said, it will be fun to see how it plays out.
