Permission to be kind to yourself.

I’ve had a couple of really bad pain days this week and have already taken a triptan this morning because I can feel the start of another. I have – as always – no idea what has caused this headache spike. But, after having a mini meltdown at the end of the day on Tuesday, I know I need to adjust my attitude about it all. Instead of just push, push, pushing through.

So, this morning, I’m allowing myself to move slowly, to acknowledge that I have a book with the editor so not knocking out 2k words before lunch doesn’t mean my world is on verge of crumbling around me.

But, when I pause to think about it, no matter how grateful I am to make a living with my writing, it is crazy that in this day and age we are pretty much forced to tie our creativity so tightly to our financials. Aka the need to make a living.

I can see why so many artists chose to be a Patreon, or maintain a ‘day’ job, etc. There is some actual science (brain chemistry studies?) that I’m in way too much pain to go digging for (or articulate with any accuracy) that places creativity and ‘making money to survive’ on opposites sides of the spectrum. Like the antithesis of each other.

Anyway, there’s my ‘deep’ thought for the day. Now I’m going to go blow dry my hair. 😜

If you are also having a rough day (or week, or month) please give yourself permission to be kind to yourself.

Lots of love!

So sorry you are having such a rough week! I love the permission to be kind to myself – the reminder of how important that is always helpful, but particularly this week…. I hope your pain becomes more manageable very shortly.

If you do not emphasize your health first, it can damage the rest of your life. Take the time to rest and relax. When you are feeling good, your creativity flows easier. You are an excellent writer and I own all your Kindle books. So take care of yourself. I want to enjoy more of your stories. Fans can be patient when you share your situation. Take a one week vacation and go somewhere you can relax totally. Be good to yourself.

I’m sorry, Meghan, that you have these awful headaches that interfere w your writing. My daughter and I have read every book you published. That is because you are an amazing writer with an incredible imagination. We will always follow your career. Just remember, quality is more important than quantity. So relax, rest, read, write.
