This likely doesn’t apply to many of you, but – as we approach the ‘official’ release of Dowser 9.5 – for anyone who missed out on the Kickstarter limited edition eBook for Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1), I’ve now made a heavilyedited* version available to purchase directly from my store.
This is the same Dowser 1 eBookthat can be downloaded for free on all retailers, just with art, character/world bible, recipes, etc. Some of that art in the new limited edition was included in the tenth anniversary Dowser 1 Kickstarter version. But it doesn’t include ALL of the extras, or obviously, all of the stretch goals (Dowser 9.5, the three audiobooks, etc) that came with the Kickstarter versions.
PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK THAT YOU DON’T ALREADY OWN THE KICKSTARTER VERSION BEFORE PURCHASING. THERE IS NOTHING NEW IN THIS VERSION.
If you’ve purchased an audiobook directly from me before (here is the list of currently available audiobooks), purchasing this eBook works exactly the same way. It is delivered by BookFunnel (you click a link or input a code into the app). Then you can transfer the eBook to your preferred reading device (say, if you like to keep all your books in the same place). Please see more info/instructions on the product page.
*Note: all of the Kickstarter limited editions were exclusive to the Kickstarter. i.e. never to be sold elsewhere (not even directly from me). So certain things have been stripped from this version, including the autographed, stamped title page, author’s note, and some of the other extras. The book cover aligns with the current Dowser covers available through all retailers – so the eBooks match in your app/eReader. The interior formatting is completely redesigned. But it does include Memo’s sketches (which can also be downloaded for free under extras and freebies) and Nicole Deal’s illustrations (which weren’t perpetually exclusive to the Kickstarter).
I hope this is clear! This is more for new readers who might want some art and some of the recipes collected together in one book. 😁
I had been planning to do these ‘detail’ posts earlier in the week, but the Tenth Aniversary Dowser Series Kickstarter has done so, so well (THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH) that all my extra sharing has been derailed by stretch goals and questions, etc. But, now that the ‘big ticket’ items have all been snatched up, the $10k between the stretch goals will likely take longer to reach, so I can take a breath and delight in everything I’ve already put together for the upcoming anniversary!
First, let’s start with the surprise (at least it was for me)! aka a brand new Dowser novella, narrated by Jade herself with Kett and Kandy tagging along for the ride! It was only after I came up with the idea of doing a Kickstarter to help me fund the new audiobooks, that the idea for this fun romp came to me. At first, I thought it was a short story (so under 7k), but then I outlined and I’m fairly certain it’s going to be a short novella (17k-40k). Though you never know what happens when the editor gets his hands on it. 😂
This novella (and all the extras I’ll list below) is only available via the Kickstarter campaign. It will be for sale on all retailers in mid2024. Dowser 9.5 will drop into backer’s inboxes on June 18, 2023, just in time to celebrate the actual tenth anniversary of Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1). Watch for more details about activities that day coming closer to the date.
Tier one also includes a brand-new recipe (which Jade is actually baking in the story), an Anniversary eCard, and (to be confirmed) an invitation to an online group event (this is just in the planning stages). Remember to vote for your fav cupcake!
Tier 1/Dowser 9.5 FAQ:
Can I get/preorder Dowser 9.5 from my regular retailer? No. Not until mid2024. The novella is exclusive to the Kickstarter for a year. It also won’t include any of the extras once it goes up for sale, just FYI.
Can I get the new recipe any other way? No. It might eventually show up in the Adept Universe Cookbook, maybe mid2024.
Do I get the stretch goals if I pledge at the Tier 1 level? No.
Can I get an invite to the Dowser Anniversary party on June 18, 2023 any other way? Unlikely. Though again the details are still being sorted out for this event. Except, generally, the guest list needs to be limited in some fashion due to the technical aspects, so the easiest way is to limit it to backers only. I’m sure it will be recorded though.
I will, of course, do some other fun things on June 18, 2023. Maybe some ‘Lives’ on Facebook and Instagram, etc. Some giveaways, of course and always. The giveaways, however, will not include any of the exclusive Kickstarter content.
Bonus! All tiers automatically receive the tier 1 items. So if you want the limited-edition eBook, or paperback, or hardcover, you also get everything listed above. Tier 2 and up also automatically get the stretch goals – three of which have already been unlocked. Yes, that’s how a robust Kickstarter works (and it has already been so fun!). You pledge, say, $17 CDN, for the limited edition eBook, and (as of Fri, Jan 13) it now comes with extra art and two audiobooks! So that’s Tier 1 + Tier 2 + 2 Audiobooks (at $15/each) = a $54 value. #MathByMeghan

A bundle so packed full of fantasy, we needed the elves to assemble it.
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) joins with 12 different Authors in a massive storybundle to twist time and space with magic, blade, and wit. Featuring Annie Bellet, Lindsay Buroker, Jeffe Kennedy, Ursula Vernon, and more.
StoryBundle is a way for people to discover quality books written by indie authors. You know how it’s always hard to find something good to read? StoryBundle can solve that. We take a handful of books and group them together to offer as a bundle. Then you, the reader, take a look at the titles we’ve chosen and decide how much you’d like to pay. We mean it; you set the price that you pay for the primary titles or kick in a little extra and reap the bonanza with all the books!
Blade & Rose by Miranda Honfleur – A perfect blend of fantastic action, menacing intrigue and riveting romance.
Curator’s notes: Miranda Honfleur’s Blade & Rose’s begins with a mismatch romance and blossoms into an adventure that is nothing short of epic. Rielle earns the title of kickass Heroine over and over again despite her flaws.
Amaskan’s Blood by Raven Oak – Two sisters. Two loyalties. One path together.
Curator’s note: A fantasy adventure with a sharp edge. I hope you find Adelei and Ida as compelling lead characters as I did. There’s so much going on, don’t try to skim this book. Read it and savor it like a well-aged single malt Scotch.
Genrenauts, Complete Season One by Michael R. Underwood – A kickass extra-dimensional adventure through the stories we love.
Curator’s note: Genrenauts is a tough book to classify. Its heroes don’t simply exist within a story, they travel into series! Trouble is they have to edit them from the inside while dodging bullets figurative (romance world) or real (hello scifi world). Strap in for a meta adventure to save the Tropes!
The Twenty-Sided Sorceress, Books 1-3 by Annie Bellet – Gamer. Nerd. Sorceress. After twenty-five years fleeing from a powerful sorcerer, a mostly-human woman is finally safe – if she can resist using her magic. Or can she?
Curator’s note: A fantastic deal, the first three books in Annie Bellet’s wildly popular, bestselling Twenty-Sided Sorceress urban fantasy series, this omnibus includes Justice Calling, Murder of Crows, and Pack of Lies. With a deft and original interweaving of role-playing games and magic, this series has delighted and captivated readers.
Ashwin by Kit Rocha – Can a genetically manipulated soldier be a hero? A healer finds a way to love a man without feelings—and fight for brightness in a dark world.
Curator’s note: Kicking off a new phase in the epic and much-loved post-apocalyptic urban fantasy cycle by Kit Rocha, Ashwin introduces the people of Sector One, and the ragtag collection of misfits seeking shelter there—and absolution following terrible deeds. With a brotherhood of guardian warriors, priestesses and healers, this story takes readers on a blood-stirring ride for redemption.
Bonus Books included with an additional contribution:
The Arrows of the Heart by Jeffe Kennedy – What do you do when your boyfriend is an animal? Really. An animal.
Curator’s note: This is a beautifully crafted tale of love and sacrifice. The poignant duet between magic and mundane echoes from the first page to the last. I’m not a fan of shifter romance, but this lush fantasy goes so far beyond werewolves that I’ll be watching for the sequel.
The Dragon Blood Chronicles by Lindsay Buroker – A dashing Pilot, a comely Sorcerous and smart mouthed Soulsword all come together in a world intent on killing them.
Curator’s note: A delightfully entertaining tale drawing together the worlds of magic and steampunk into a romantic adventure. The characters pull you into their story and help you lose yourself, as you imagine watching them triumph over adversity, finding love along the way.
Radiance by Grace Draven – A marriage between alien kingdoms – and two “spares” who find beauty in each other, and that heroism comes in many forms.
Curator’s note: Grace Draven’s brilliant, bestselling opening to the Wraith Kings fantasy romance series has dazzled readers with its tale of a human woman married to a Kai warrior. She learns to find a way past his razor sharp teeth and fearsome claws and together they forge an alliance that provides a guiding light for both their peoples.
The Raven and the Reindeer by Ursula Vernon – A enthralling remix of a classic fairy tale, with a practical heroine who follows her heart to a very different ending.
Curator’s note: Ursula Vernon’s writing under her adult penname T. Kingfisher continues to prove why she is among my favorite authors with the Raven and the Reindeer. This retelling of the classic Snow Queen fairy tale is equal parts humor and pathos with character that are sheer delight.
Catching Echoes by Meghan Ciana Doidge – What could go wrong when a no-nonsense witch with family issues is forced to work alongside a powerful and obnoxious vampire to solve a murder?
Curator’s note: Meghan Ciana Doidge deftly manages to create a world with depth and color that clearly shows the stories going on just out of sight, just like the real world. This book is easily one of the most captivating urban fantasy novels I’ve read in years.
Al-Kabar by Lee French – A young woman is chosen by powerful supernatural forces to bring justice to a desert land of oasis kingdoms.
Curator’s note: Lee French’s Al-Kabar is a rollicking adventure fantasy set in a richly imagined world inspired by medieval Arabia. Fakhira must like the phoenix rise from the ashes of her village and learn to harness the powers bequeathed to her by the mysterious Waters. Action and romance in a unique desert setting!
The Glass Gargoyle by Marie Andreas – A spate of dead patrons forces archeologist Taryn St. Giles to become a bounty hunter. Needless to say, things don’t go well.
Curator’s note: Marie Andreas writes a raucous and exciting world that grabs you by the shirt and drags you into the bar brawl the protagonist’s life has become. This book and the characters in it don’t let up, so hang on.

Synopsis: Two more elves were at large in Vancouver, but thankfully they’d been keeping a low profile while I faced the most daunting task of my twenty-seven years — planning and executing my wedding. I was dealing with a disgruntled grandmother with an extensive guest wish list of the magically inclined, all of whom didn’t particularly like each other. Plus a fiance whose concept of time was altered whenever he stepped into a dimensional pocket, and a best friend who’d spent months planning what was certain to be an insane bachelorette party. How was I supposed to find time to worry about possible invasions, or the motley crew of magical misfits who had unrepentantly upended my peaceful existence?
Not that I was complaining.
Who didn’t love wielding deadly weapons, opening a bakery, and marrying their soul mate in the same week? Or was that just my sort of thing?
Because I periodically go a little loopy (approximately once a year, it seems) and because Bookbub is featuring the Dowser Series Box Set #1 this upcoming Sunday, the first three books in the Dowser Series are available for $0.99 on all retailers for a limited time.
If you have any friends or family that you think might be interested, please share. Just warn them about stocking up on chocolate before they dive in … it’s like the opposite of waiting an hour after you eat to go swimming. 😀
I contacted Elizabeth Mackey about doing a book cover for the upcoming Dowser 7 last week. At same time, I mentioned that I’d been thinking about revamping or rebranding all the covers, but that I was hesitant to do so because the books had done really well with the lighter, simple covers.
Then I just left it with her – no guidance or specific image ideas or anything. And Elizabeth, with her killer eye and sense of all things graphic design, decided that an extreme rebranding probably wasn’t necessary but maybe the series just need a tweak, a freshening. A bit more depth and little more magic.
This is what she came up with. And I love it.
You know my favourite part? Well, of course you do … MORE CHOCOLATE!!
I’ll be rolling out all six covers over the next couple of days. And soon … so soon now, it will be time for the cover (and title) reveal for Dowser 7!!
I’m exceedingly pleased to announce that the Oracle Series has been brilliantly rebranded by the ever talented, Elizabeth Mackey. I asked her to pull the covers more inline with the Dowser and Reconstructionist Series, emphasizing the magical/fantastical elements, and I believe this new look does exactly that.
I’ll be rolling out the new book covers across all retailers/sites over the next few days, but here is a first look at I See Me (Oracle 1). I hope you love it as much as I do!!
Even with the best of intentions, darkness will rise.
RELEASE DATE: DECEMBER 29, 2016
Synopsis:
I preferred it when life came in tidy packages. When it didn’t — when something went awry — I was exceedingly skilled at packaging it back up. It was my job to do so, after all.
I was a reconstructionist.
I collected the puzzle pieces, then I gave those pieces to an investigative team to sort out. I didn’t ask questions. I didn’t offer answers. I saw, I recorded, and I moved on.
I didn’t dwell or obsess. I didn’t hunt down suspects. I didn’t follow clues to find a killer. And I certainly didn’t work side by side with anyone — least of all a vampire who I strongly suspected might turn out to be the major missing component when the case was complete.
Then I saw something I couldn’t forget. It wasn’t the bloodiest thing I’d ever seen — it wasn’t even close — but it haunted me. I didn’t like being haunted.
But I couldn’t figure out how to get it out of my head.
Someone was killing teenaged boys in the Pacific Northwest. Despite my misgivings, if I could help catch a killer, I had to at least try.
*The ebook should be live on B&N early next week (unless they get it uploaded over the weekend).
** Kobo is in a time-out because they delivered the wrong manuscript to a number of readers for my last preorder, then they made it difficult for some readers to obtain the proper version. I will upload the preorder when I have a final proofed copy (around Dec 18).
