Ongoing kerfuffle in the audiobook world …

You might be seeing posts all over social media from your fav authors and audiobook narrators about the new Terms of Use that Findaway (aka Spotify) attempted to implement (with thirty days notice) yesterday. I, among many other authors, immediately sent emails indicating that we’d be pulling our audiobooks off Findaway/Spotify if they insisted on pushing through the new terms as written (the issues are numerous so I won’t bother getting into the details here). About eleven hours later, they issued a statement that they were looking into clarifying the wording.

I’m not immediately pulling my audiobooks off Findaway/Spotify but I will remove them if they force me to do so. That will mean that my audiobooks will be pulled from all the retailers that Findaway distributes to, including Nook, Google Play, Hoopla, Spotify, etc.

And, yes, this will impact my sales. Producing audiobooks is expensive. A long-term investment. So obviously making them available to the widest range of readers is ideal. My audiobooks have brought in a significant amount of money in 2023 (though not more than I spent in 2023 😂) – from multiple channels, yes, but losing the ability to reach smaller retailers and libraries via Findaway will be unfortunate.

I will keep you all updated.

With that all said, buying audiobooks directly from me (or other authors) is the least expensive option for you that also pays me the most. Yes! It’s nice that it works out like that! Also, you own the audiobooks (and ebooks for that matter) you buy from me. If you cancel your Audible (etc) account, you can lose your audiobooks (there are ways around this, but you are technically ‘renting’ audiobooks through subscription services).

I’ve pinned a post with links to all my available audiobooks to the top of my blog (because I’m way behind in keeping my links updated on my book pages, sigh) so they are easier to find. Click here to see the list of audiobooks.

Also, in case I don’t say it enough, you all freaking rock, every book you buy from me directly or from any retailer or get at a library directly equates to me being able to make a living doing what I love to do – storytelling!! 😘 Thank you!

A shot stolen from my social media, taken Monday when I dropped off the L.E.’s of Awry at the shipping depot. Posted here because I really, really wouldn’t mind having that hot fudge milkshake to suck on right now. 😜

Conduit 1: cover reveal, synopsis, and preorder links

Cover design by G&S Cover Design Studio

On my way to investigate my aunt’s untimely death, I chance upon a teenager with purple eyes. Her destiny is so vibrant, so intertwined with the essence that fuels all our lives, that I cannot stand to see her caged and crushed.

What I don’t know is that rescuing the teen isn’t chance or happenstance at all. It isn’t just another random bit of destiny I can fix. It’s a snag in the weave of the universe that unravels … everything.

I am exactly who I am meant to be. I belong to no one but the universe. My destiny was spun and measured before I was born. I never really had a choice. But the path that brought me to becoming the Conduit at least a century before my time has been manipulated. And along the way, I’ve somehow lost far more than I ever knew I had.

Friends.

Lovers.

Soul-bound mates.

More than just my life has been twisted, all our fates ripped away.

And I remember none of it.

Awry is the first book in the Conduit Series, which is a secondary-world urban fantasy romance. Content warnings and tropes/themes can be found at the beginning of the book or on the author’s website.

Moments of the Adept Universe 1: paperback

Yes! Moments of the Adept Universe, Vol 1 is now (finally!) available in paperback (via Amazon)!

Ahem, I’d actually forgotten to format it for paperback, etc, sorry! Memo’s sketches look fantastic in print (see video below). Which makes me think I should get some postcards printed up as well.

The FULL (updated) reading order is in the front of the paperback but you can always find and download the slightly less updated reading order under novels and reading order.

Oh! And remember I still have bookplates available (in a single pack and in a pack of five) if you need/want one for your Moments paperback.

Amplifier 5.5: official cover reveal & synopsis

If you’ve read Instincts and Impostors (Amplifier 5), you might have noticed (via the back matter) that I have a short novella (22k) releasing at the end of September – Recon Mission: Bee (Amplifier 5.5), narrated by Samantha/Zans! Yes! There is an excerpt from the first chapter in the back of Amplifier 5 Zans’s adventure runs concurrently to Emma’s newest challenge (so hopefully it answers some lingering questions!)

Releasing September 29, 2022

PREORDER NOW AVAILABLE

– AMAZON – KOBO – APPLE BOOKS – BARNES & NOBLE – SMASHWORDS –

Synopsis: Concerned that we hadn’t heard from her in over a year, Fish had dragged me all the way into the middle of Russia to follow up a lead on the whereabouts of our telepathic team member. Amanda, aka Bee. But what was supposed to be a simple reconnaissance mission — gathering intel so we could formulate a plan that might need to involve the rest of the team — went sideways within twenty-four hours.

Because even though the bonds that held we Five together in life were tied so tight that the death of one of us might mean the death of all … I was apparently the only one who took the responsibility that came with those ties seriously.

Recon Mission: Bee is a 22k novella in the Amplifier series, which is set in the same universe as the Dowser, Oracle, Reconstructionist, Archivist, and Misfits of the Adept Universe series.

Moments of the Adept Universe 1: cover reveal, etc.

If you’re subscribed to my newsletter you may have read six of the seven stories contained in this collection of shorts and novelettes. I gave them away through 2021 in an unedited/unproofed form, but have now bundled them together, added another novelette (Burgundy 0.5), and asked Memo to illustrate a scene (or moment, wink wink) from each. I’ll be sharing those illustrations and a little snippet of each story in the week leading up to publication.

I hope to write more novellas through 2022 to expand the ever-growing Adept Universe! I have ideas!

Archivist 0: Cover reveal and synopsis

I’m celebrating getting the prequel to the Archivist series off to the proofreader today by revealing the freaking gorgeous book cover by Damonza, along with the synopsis.

As with The Amplifier Protocol last year, Awakening Infinity (Archivist 0) will be serialized here on my blog every Wednesday and Friday, starting January 1, 2021. I’ll also make the preorder available by that date for those of you who prefer to read all at once. Don’t worry I’ll email all the details to my mailing list (make sure you’re subscribed) and refresh my ‘how to subscribe to MCD’s blog’ instructions so you don’t miss a chapter.

Without further chatter – the gorgeous cover!

Book cover by Damonza.

Synopsis: The plan was to hop a train to Oslo, hang out at a coffee shop, and connect my personal archive, Infinity, to the Internet. Yes, completely disregarding the well-established fact that magic and technology didn’t mix. At all.

I was also hoping to browse as many bookstores as I could before my younger brother’s patience ran out. Unfortunately, the five-year-old fledgling dragon was better known for his exuberant â€” and ultimately destructive â€” tendencies rather than his attention span.

I almost pulled it all off. Almost proved that my position as Archivist of the Modern World wasn’t just an empty title.

Then I got summoned â€” by the most powerful beings in the magical world. And when the guardian dragons made a request, no one denied them. Not even a lesser dragon.

Not even if it tore me away from everything I’d ever known â€” and the one person I couldn’t leave behind.

Awakening Infinity is a prequel novel in the Archivist series, which is set in the same universe as the Dowser, Oracle, Reconstructionist, Amplifier, and Misfits of the Adept Universe series. While it is not necessary to read all the series, in order to avoid spoilers the ideal reading order of the Adept Universe begins with Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1). Or click here for the full reading order.

Questions about the Archivist Series? Feel free to comment below (or +1 other comments) and I’ll write up a FAQ, if needed!!

Amplifier 3: cover reveal and synopsis

Mystics and Mental Blocks (Amplifier 3) is now available for preorder. YAY!

– AMAZON â€“ KOBO â€“ APPLE BOOKS â€“ B&N â€“ SMASHWORDS â€“

Cover design by: Gene Mollica Studios
Models: Devon Ericksen and Jonathan Cannaux

Synopsis: Three days. That was all the reprieve we got before one of the Five showed up, injured and on the run. The snowstorm that had encased the property, as well as stifled the town, hadn’t even melted away.

That wounded prey led our newest adversary directly to me, to Christopher. Inconvenient timing, but not unexpected.

It was the betrayal forcing me to stay my hand against that adversary that shocked me. Betrayal from the least likely of sources. Or so I would have thought.

But that didn’t change who I was, and what I would do to preserve a life I loved, people I cherished.

I wasn’t so easily broken. But that didn’t mean I couldn’t be hurt, couldn’t be pulled apart. Unraveled.

And if I managed to put the pieces back together? I wasn’t certain who I’d be on the other side of it all. Friend? Lover? Killer? Emma or Amp5?

Or was it possible to be all those things at once?

Mystics and Mental Blocks by Meghan Ciana Doidge is the third book in the Amplifier series, which is set in the Adept Universe along with the Dowser, the Oracle, and the Reconstructionist series.

Amplifier Series: clarifications and links

I’ve been getting bunch of questions about the Amplifier Series (how/where/when to get/read the various books) and I thought I should try to answer those questions concisely all in one place.

I will also be sending an email to my new release list on Tuesday, March 26 when The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0) officially releases on all retailers. After that, I hope everything will be a lot clearer.

So, to the point:

The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0) releases on all retailers on March 26, 2019. The preorder is now available. This is the SAME NOVELLA that I released here on my blog for free. It is set seven years before the events in the main series.

Close to Home (Amplifier 0.5) will be made available in two ways. The novelette (16k) is bundled with The Amplifier Protocol as a bonus story – for those who waited to read the prequel or those who wish to purchase the prequel to re-read. Close to Home will also be available as a preorder giveaway for Demons and DNA (Amplifier 1).

Preorder giveaway – I will officially launch the preorder giveaway for Demons and DNA (Amplifier 1) on Tuesday, March 26. But! It only really applies if you choose to NOT purchase Amplifier 0. I wanted everyone who read the prequel on my blog to still be able to get A0.5 (without forcing them to buy a book that they might have no intention of rereading). I hope that makes sense.

Demons and DNA (Amplifier 1) releases on all retailers on April 30, 2019. The preorder is now available.

So to sum up, here is the reading order:

  • The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0) – prequel novella, releases on March 26, 2019
  • Close to Home (Amplifier 0.5) – bundled with A0 and/or available through the preorder giveaway for A1.
  • Demons and DNA (Amplifier 1) – preorder available, releases on April 30, 2019
Cover design by: Gene Mollica Studios
Model: Devon Ericksen

RELEASES ON ALL RETAILERS ON MARCH 26, 2019.

Dowser 9: cover reveal and excerpt

[Deleted long blog post. Then distilled it down to the important beats].

It is with joy in my heart but tears in my eyes that I share the cover for Gemstones, Elves, and Other Insidious Magic (Dowser 9). And yes, it is the last book – for the foreseeable future – in the Dowser Series.

Dowser 9 book cover by the ever talented Elizabeth Mackey

And the release date: DECEMBER 4, 2018.

The preorder will start to appear on all retailers in the first week of November. But there is no preorder giveaway for this release. Make sure you are on my new release mailing list so you don’t miss the release and any other ‘goodies’ I decide to include. 🙂

I haven’t been sharing as many teasers as I usually do while writing Dowser 9 because the entire book, practically every single line, is a freaking spoiler, ha! But I really felt like sharing something today, so here is the unedited opening of Gemstones, Elves, and Other Insidious Magic (Dowser 9).

– SPOILERS – SPOILERS – SPOILERS  – SPOILERS – SPOILERS –

A man hung suspended in a whirlwind of magic above me.

No … not just a man.

A dragon.

I crouched on the back edge of a six foot wide, foot high white platform over the elvish tech I was tasked to repair, fiddling with a gemstone I’d previously removed. Pretending to work while peering through the maelstrom of golden-tinted magic that fueled the gateway.

The golden-tint of the dragon’s magic.

Of his life force.

Energy … magic … life … that was slowly being siphoned away through the tech.

Something was wrong, terribly, terribly wrong with that … scenario, that situation. But whenever I tried to grasp that thought, to fully articulate it in my mind it hovered just beyond my understanding.

I glanced to my right, then left. The center section of the stadium grew smaller and smaller each day as the elves erected sections of walls, closing in on the gateway. If I tilted my head, I could still see the upper rows of seating that rose almost all the way to the domed ceiling. There were less rows than there had been the last time I’d counted. Not that I could remember the exact number. Or why that mattered.

We, the dragon and me, were surrounded by elves, including my liege.

But … we weren’t a ‘we’.

We’re we?

And why would being surrounded by elves matter?

I’d repaired the tech.

I’d created a pathway at my liege’s command.

Opening a rift between dimensions so that the elves could cross into the earth’s dimension from their own.

That I knew for certain.

That I remembered doing.

Except, yesterday — if my sense of time could be trusted — something else had occurred, something that upset my liege, disrupting our connection for a moment that lasted long enough for me to remember … other things, other ideas.

Ideas that fluttered just out of my reach even as I gazed up at the dragon fueling the gateway with his life force.

Though my liege’s hold on my mind kept slipping, through her I came to understand that the witches who claimed this territory, this city, had somehow reined the elves in, curtailing my liege’s plans.

For the moment.

The stadium was slowly filling with restless warriors as one elf at a time stepped through the gateway. Then waited.

Everyone was on the edge of violence, caught in the waiting.

Me especially.
