Admin note: automated taxes on direct sales

Just a quick note (sorry for cluttering your inbox), but I enabled ‘automated taxes’ for the direct digital products (i.e. logos and audiobooks) that I’m selling via the Made By Meghan site this morning. There is a threshold in Canada for collecting GST so I hadn’t bothered (though the Kickstarter last January is likely going to be factored into that, so I really should have been charging GST for all of 2023 – yikes). I thought there was a threshold for VAT as well, but – and I will confirm this with my accountant – apparently, that has changed and every single sale (digital goods or not) is now subject to VAT in the EU. Sigh.

The store is now set up to calculate the taxes (GST/VAT, etc) automatically based on YOUR location. It is added to the cost, so for example, an audiobook will now be $10CDN+applicable tax but clearly shown/noted in the cart. Still all Canadian currency, so the final charge on your credit card, etc, will show the price after the exchange rate is applied.

Anyway, just an FYI! I still have to sort all my end out with the accountant (and where/how I’m going to find time to keep track of it all), but I spent hours last night and this morning reading up on it and it’s pretty clear I should have been charging VAT to my EU readers right away.

Not sure this affects many of my American readers, BTW. Again, the taxes are (supposed to now be) automated based on your location. Though the flat GST rate (5%) might be applicable to all (hard for me to test since I’m in BC).

The T-shirts, etc, purchased via Amazon are a separate thing. Amazon takes care of collecting the tax on those.

New T-shirts and Merch, etc.

A quick post to let you know that I’ve updated the Adept Universe ‘Official’ Merch page to include more logos and more ways to get your hands on merch, etc. Click the previous link and scroll to get all the info and links in one place, or keep reading for more background info.

For USA Readers, T-shirts are still available in the fitted premium style (my fav)(but the fit is SMALL), and I’ve also added a standard T-shirt and a tank top, plus a tote bag.

For UK readers, T-shirts are now available in standard and tank top.

For my fellow Canadians and other international readers, I have yet to find a single printing place that ships worldwide of a high enough quality to pass my personal inspection. So I’ve added download options for all the designs/logos. I’m charging $3CDN/per logo because, not including all the credit card fees, etc, that is approximately what I make when someone buys one of the T-shirts (etc). You can simply download the logo, save it to your computer, and then upload it to your own favourite printing place. I put some printing tips on each individual product page.

The download logo option is available to anyone who wants a logo to create their own – personal use only – merch, such as other styles of T-shirts or cellphone covers. Copyright Meghan Ciana Doidge 2022. This was the only way I could think of to keep everything equitable for my lovely readers.

For all of the above, I’ve also added three new designs based on three of the Amplifier Series oracle cards. The sunflower, apple blossom, and dandelion were the three logos selected by the reader-run Facebook fan group. All three look great but the Apple Blossom is my fav. The dandelion is definitely a subtle print.

But I WON’T continually offer autographed paperbacks, the shipping is just too expensive. If there is interest, I’ll do swag boxes for the release of Amplifier 6 (late-2022). And I have a Kickstarter coming up for a 10th Anniversary edition of Dowser 1 in 2023 (hardcover and eBook). Adept Universe: stickers in store

ETA, May 28: I’ve added another nineteen sets of Adept Universe stickers to my store. $10 CDN, plus regular lettermail. Click the previous link for more info and/or to purchase. Please don’t ask me why I can’t manage to do the math on these and at least stock rounded numbers. LOL

Adept Universe stickers: 16 designs from the Dowser, Oracle, and Amplifier Series, plus a random postcard.

The sticker designs are from a variety of books, including Kandy’s T-shirt designs, Rochelle’s butterfly tattoo, and a few of the Amplifier oracle card images. Don’t ask me why the Cake in a Cup logo isn’t included, I honestly thought it was and just noticed it wasn’t! Also, I’m pretty sure I meant to order more stickers but only an extra six sets just showed up … so … yeah … hopefully they don’t sell out.

I’ll put a random postcard in the envelope to help protect the stickers during shipping, about twenty of the envelopes have ‘collectible’ Dowser series recipe cards in them (with the cream-coloured book covers) so you are very welcome. LOL
