Reconstructionist Series Trivia Quiz!

Updated April 17, 2022: I have been informed *by Michael* that I made the Reconstructionist quiz WAY TOO HARD. So I have swapped out two questions and rephrased one other in an attempt to make it more accessible. Link below.

I’m really trying to find the line that is interesting but not too hard, yet I’m still worried I’m making these Adept Universe quizzes too easy! Nonetheless, here is the quiz for the Reconstructionist Series! Ten random questions in total. If you haven’t read the Reconstructionist Series yet, the first book is Catching Echoes and it comes after Oracle 3 (or Dowser 6) in the reading order.

Okay (if you saw me freaking out about this over on Facebook) the quiz app/software had an update available this morning, and miraculously the quiz that I spent far too much time putting together a few weeks ago now works!! YAY!

I’ll do more quizzes for the other series if you all like this one.

Amplifier Series: dramatic reveals and dessert

Pearl Godfrey crossed to greet us, raising her hand to meet Aiden’s handshake without a moment of hesitation. He flashed her a charming grin that just slid right off the elder witch.

Now that was impressive.

But then I pretty much melted whenever Aiden even glanced my way, even after all these months of the minutiae of spending every waking moment together. And the sleeping moments as well.

Pearl kept hold of Aiden’s hand, her head tilted thoughtfully. “Pearl Godfrey. You must be Aiden Myers.”

“Aiden Azar,” he replied smoothly.

That gave me pause. Though I hoped my surprise hadn’t shown on my face. I hadn’t known that Aiden had decided to resume using his father’s name. But then, it wasn’t at all surprising that he’d want to distance himself from his mother, and the Myers coven.

Pearl smiled at him knowingly. “Dramatic reveals usually come after dessert, sorcerer.”

Aiden chuckled. “My apologies. I figured my presence was enough of a disturbance that I should just dive in.”

I was a dragon. Dragons didn’t run from any situation. Not even a dragon disguised as a witch. Well … at least not from any situation that involved the archive or my duty, because apparently I fled before anything even remotely personal. Including surprise double dates.

Synopsis: A masked gala. A solstice celebration with the werewolves. Broken relics and doorways leading not only to other realms, other mythical and magical creatures, but to other possible futures. For me. And maybe even for Kellan.

And, well … that’s all just another day at the office for me.

Though my witch disguise really wasn’t going to hold up for much longer. Because even though I’d accepted my role as head curator at the magical archive of the National Museum of Ireland, and all the duties that came with being the Archivist of the Modern World, apparently I didn’t like the restrictions that came along with that. Because I couldn’t build the life I truly wanted — the dream unfurling in the dark chambers of my heart — on lies and half-truths.

Which meant that a moment was looming when I’d be faced with a choice that I couldn’t bear to walk away from. A choice that I might be willing to lose everything else to obtain.

Compelling Infinity is the second book in the Archivist series, which is set in the same universe as the Dowser, Oracle, Reconstructionist, Amplifier, and Misfits of the Adept Universe series. While it is not necessary to read all the series, in order to avoid spoilers the ideal reading order of the Adept Universe begins with Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1).

Archivist Series reading order:

Dowser Series: avoiding destiny

Putting together Chi Wen’s bio this afternoon, I found this great scene with Chi Wen (and Warner) from Dowser 4. Note: the first use of the title, dragon slayer. And, of course, Jade assumes the far seer is referring to the newly awoken Warner. Poor, poor Jade, little does she know …

Warner stepped out of the portal behind me just as Chi Wen the far seer wandered into the room.

Ah, damn. I’d been trying to avoid destiny today.

Chi Wen, the eldest of the guardians, appeared to be an ancient Chinese gentleman. He loved to smile. As in, constantly. I wasn’t sure he was capable of any other expression. All gray hair and wrinkles, he came up to my collarbone, though he wasn’t particularly wizened.

As best as I’d guessed, he wielded oracle and telepathic powers. The oracle magic was like calling 911, except he was the only operator sifting through visions of disasters and pending worldwide destruction. He then tasked these imminent catastrophes to various guardians depending on their particular power sets. I wasn’t completely sure about the telepathic part, but I was fairly certain he could at least communicate with the other guardians without vocalizing his thoughts. Which was probably a good thing, because I rarely understood a word that came out of his mouth. And that had nothing to do with his heavy accent.

Chi Wen grinned at me like I was his own child safely home from the demonic wars … and in his mind, maybe I was. I curtsied with much more reverence and grace than I had for Suanmi.

I always tried to clear my mind in the far seer’s presence, but today I found myself repeating Please don’t touch me, please don’t read me in my head. The far seer scared me way more than any of the other guardians. Sure, they could all end my very existence with a single glance. But Chi Wen could show me my future, and that was utterly terrifying. Completely soul shaking.

Warner stepped up beside me. He wasn’t a stand-just-behind-my-shoulder-person like Kett, or even Kandy. With him being a mighty dragon — with obvious prejudices against my heritage — I was surprised he didn’t stride completely past me.

“Hello, dragon slayer,” Chi Wen called cheerfully as he shuffled toward us.

Warner cranked his head to look at me, actually taking a step away as he did so.

“Don’t look at me,” I said. “The far seer was obviously addressing you.”

“Yes,” Chi Wen said agreeably. “Every blade needs a solid hilt.”

Err … yeah, I had no idea what that meant. But I kept my mouth shut and tried to not flinch when Chi Wen patted my shoulder as he passed.

As he touched me, I suddenly realized I was drowning — and had been drowning for some time — surrounded by crushing water. I started to panic, to thrash, to die — but then I broke the surface, my mouth full of salty water and the warm sun on my face.

I gasped for air, realizing I was in the nexus — that I’d never left — as I filled my lungs with as much oxygen as they could hold.

Chi Wen was gone.

Warner was looking at me like I was a ticking time bomb.

“What?” I asked, as snarky as I could be to cover my near drowning in the middle of a waterless chamber.

“What did the far seer show you?” Warner asked.

Well, that was a rude question.

Archivist 0: The Serialization Of

The first chapter of Awakening Infinity (Archivist 0) releases on the blog at 8:05 am (PST) on January 1, 2021. I’ll be posting a new section every Wednesday and Friday from January 1 to February 26. The entire novel is also currently available for preorder and will release on all retailers on March 2, 2021.

As with the prequel for the Amplifier Series, when I came up with the idea for the Archivist Series, I knew that we needed to see the inciting incident that takes place about a month before the main story – an introduction to Dusk and Sisu and how they’re connected to the guardian dragons – but it was too much info to be shoved into the beginning of the first book. It would have ruined the pacing.

Awakening Infinity (Archivist 0) is a short novel, approx 53k, that focuses on the relationship between sister and brother, Dusk’s doubts about her abilities, and the blissful moment when she realizes she is on the right path. It’s a quieter story (for me) but no less intense (fingers crossed).

I’m serializing the prequel for my readers as a thank you for traveling this far along in the Adept Universe with me, and also as an introduction to a new character, new series.

Things you might like to know (but feel free to ask any other question below):

Other than the reintroduction of (some of) the guardian dragons, the Archivist Series is a completely new series set within the Adept Universe. Minor, fun crossovers might occur but should not be expected. (Read: NO JADE!). Archivist 0 can be read as a standalone (if you wish to share/recommend it).

You do not need to be caught up in the reading order of the Adept Universe to read-along.

Please feel free to comment and discuss the chapters/parts in the blog comment section (or over in the Facebook fan group). Please feel free to share the blog posts and/or the memes. I’m hoping that gathering to read the prequel and discussing the story as it releases will be part of the fun!

The blog posts will be automatically shared on my Twitter and Facebook feeds but you might wish to also follow the blog itself so you don’t want to miss a post.

Are you ready to dig in?

I’m totally excited!!

Are you new to the Adept Universe? Awakening Infinity (Archivist 0) can be read separately, but the first book in the universe, Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1), is currently free as well! Click here for the recommended reading order of the Adept Universe.

The brainstorming continues …

With the prequel to the upcoming Archivist Series waiting for Michael’s notes – he is my first beta reader after I complete the third draft, which I did yesterday – I get to spend the day (week) brainstorming and outlining Archivist 1!

Let’s just say that spilling multiple cups of coffee all over herself is, unfortunately, going to be the highpoint of Dusk’s first week as the head curator for the magical archives at [redacted].

But don’t worry, dragons don’t burn easily.

Just FYI, because I’m already fielding questions (which is totally, completely cool), the Archivist Series is set in the Adept Universe but built around entirely new characters. There will be no MAJOR crossovers. As the writer/creator, I retain the right to change my mind at any point, of course. But only if it benefits the plot. (Read: Jade is too powerful to just pop into other books/series for no reason). It’s best to assume that each series is completely separate moving forward with the exception of the Misfits books. Thank you for hanging out with me on this multi-branched journey!!

To-Do List #Fail

Me: Okay! I finished the second draft of Archivist 0 and really should do something marketing related for the Amplifier series. Like promote my new release, Idols and Enemies (Amplifier 4) with some review quotes. Or like mention in various places on the interwebs that The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0) is only going to be free until the end of the month.

Also me: Let’s spend the afternoon working on Dusk’s family tree!

The Archivist’s family tree … so far … dragons live a long time. And archivists go missing, aka wandering through the stacks. A lot.

So yeah … #AmStillWriting #AdeptUniverse … but totally ignoring my inbox and other duties.

🙂
