Just in case you ever wondered how long I work on some of my books/stories before even writing the first draft, I pulled this notebook off the shelf this morning:
Oh yeah, all sorts of fun things are about to happen to the Adept Universe reading order/timeline (for release in 2021) … I really hope SFG (aka the editor) doesn’t fire me.
I’m guessing this isn’t the ‘crossover’ you expected, but the muse takes me where she wants to go! I’m just along for the ride and I hope you will be as well. 🙂
Morana “Mory” Novak: Necromancer. Soul seer. Junior specialist for the witches’ Convocation. The wielder’s necromancer. Purple hair, naturally ash brown. With shades of blue in Dowser 7. In Oracle 3, it was sunset-dyed. In Misfits 1, her hair is a deep purple streaked with pink and light blue. Large dark brown eyes, round cheeks, short and petite. “Pixie-like.” Brother: Rusty (d). Mother: Danica. Father was a witch, descended from the founding members of the Godfrey coven, who died before she was born. DOB: February 8, 1998. 15 years old in Dowser 2, 19 in Dowser 7, 21 in Misfits 1. Obsessed with knitting. Lives in a weathered cream-colored Georgian manor in Shaughnessy, with a laurel hedge, wrought iron fence, marble entrance way, massive library, and eight bedrooms. Empty pool, and an overgrown yard. Apprenticed to Pearl, head of the Convocation. Graduated the Academy in 2019. Best friends with Burgundy, witch. According to Jade, her magic tastes like toasted marshmallows with a candied violet undertone. Objects of power: a heavy linked silver chain and thinner flat-linked gold chain, with a jade stone in a cage made from gold bangles, made by Jade, and modified into a coin-ladened necklace by Dowser 7. Dead red-eared slider named Ed, animated with Mory’s power and further enhanced when Jade bled all over him in Dowser 9. Knitting needles that amplify her own ability to wield soul magic.
Burgundy Dalton: witch. Aka Amy (in Dowser 2). Mory’s friend. A quarter witch, through her maternal grandmother. Changed her name when she started studying magic with Pearl and Scarlett, revealing a talent for healing. Wavy light brown hair (with blue streaks in Dowser 7). Curvy and cute. Hazel eyes. Likes the color yellow. Studying medicine at UBC. Keeps her premade spells and charms in a wooden box, mostly for healing but also for calming, etc. According to Jade (the dowser), her magic tastes like sweet watermelon. Drives an older Honda Civic. Lives in the Dunbar area. DOB August 30, 1997 (Virgo). 20 in Dowser 7. 22 in Misfits 1. Objects of Power: a focus/amplification stone – a smooth rock about the size of her palm, taken from her property to help focus her magic. A runed grounding is carved into the stone – the symbol for earth combined with a healing rune passed down from her grandmother. The focal stone was strengthened by Jade in Dowser 9, turning it into an amplification stone. Warm to the touch.
Scarlett Godfrey: Witch. Occupies one of the thirteen seats on the witches’ Convocation. Charm and charisma are focal points for her magic, but she’s also skilled with healing salves and barrier spells. Petite. Long strawberry blonde hair. Indigo blue eyes. Creamy skin. 44 in Dowser 7. Beautiful, and sexy. Mother of Jade Godfrey (the Dowser). Daughter of Pearl Godfrey (Head of the Godfrey Coven). Scarlett went ‘traveling’ at the age of 16, returning from Australia pregnant with Jade and with no way to contact the father. Her relationship with her mother is perpetually strained for a multitude of reasons, including the fact that Pearl insisted she was incapable of raising her own daughter.
According to Jade, her magic tastes predominately like strawberries with hints of lilac and white chocolate, and a base of fresh-cut grass. She returned to Vancouver between Dowser 1 and Dowser 2, purchasing and renovating a house on West Fifth Avenue and Stephens, then selling two of the three suites of the triplex. She reunited with Jade’s father, Yazi, after Dowser 3 but their relationship status hasn’t been formalized. Objects of power: a rapier with a large blue stone, gifted to her by Chi Wen, the Far Seer of the Guardian Nine.
Memo, the illustrator who is working on the sketches for the Adept Universe bible, made some wallpapers of Mory and Ed from Misplaced Souls (Misfits 1). She formatted each of the following images for Android, iPhone X, older Phone, and tablet/desktop. Clicking on the corresponding link below each sketch should take you to the full-sized image, and there you can download it to your computer/phone/tablet.
Feel free to share these images on your social media pages as well. You can use the tags: #AdeptUniverse or #MisfitsOfTheAdeptUniverse #MeghanCianaDoidge, etc, etc.
Misplaced Souls (Misfits of the Adept Universe 1) releases tomorrow (April 14, 2020)!!
I’ve added Envy in a Cup to the Adept Universe Cookbook (click the link to download the full PDF) but here is the JPG version for your quick viewing pleasure.
Author’s Note: I had a bit of an incident with my first test bake of Envy in a Cup, and the cake came out WAY too dense and almost weirdly moist. Michael ate them, of course. 😀 I noticed that my baking powder was newly expired, so I replaced it (and I urge you to do the same). But I had also used a new-to-me whole wheat pastry flour from Bob’s Red Mill. I remembered that the new pastry flour had also made for oddly overly moist banana bread, so I decided the issue with the cupcakes stemmed from the same cause. Problem was, I no longer had access to my regular (locally milled) whole wheat pastry flour, so I had to search for another flour. I settled on a fine grain whole wheat from Anita’s Mill. The cupcakes are still dense, but delightfully so!
Just a long way of saying, that, as always, feel free to use your favourite flour. Just make sure the batter isn’t overly thick (add a touch more milk to thin it, if it is) otherwise you might not enjoy the exceedingly dense cake that may result!
Envy in a Cup gets a massive thumbs up from Michael and me, so much so I’m going to add them to my top five favourites!! Which are, in no particular order, Cozy in a Cup, Lust in a Cup, Serenity in a Cup, Clarity in a Cup, and now Envy in a Cup!
Lillie has been working on building the Adept Universe bible and a few days ago she tweeted a summary that was so, so perfect that I had to grab screenshots and share it.
If you click on the first image it should take you to the actual feed/thread on Twitter, if you prefer. You can find more info on Lillie and her author services on her website.
In an attempt to be more organized, specifically with my blog and my newsletter, I’m going to start doing a monthly giveaway post. Let’s see how long I can keep this up (seeing as I haven’t actually mailed the big box winner her paperbacks from my last giveaway yet – yikes!!). Ha.
For February, I’m giving away an autographed paperback of Mystics and Mental Blocks (Amplifier 3), which is now available in eBook (on all retailers), paperback, and audio!
Tea cup not included in giveaway – and yes, that’s the exact cup Emma covets from Hannah Stewart’s thrift shop and that Christopher buys the amplifier for her birthday – but the pretty paperback can be autographed and the postcard can be personalized and both can be shipped to you anywhere in the world!

Narrated by the exceedingly talented Tia Rider, Mystics and Mental Blocks (Amplifier 3) is now available in audiobook – YAY! I freaking adore Tia’s Emma and am totally writing book four just so I can hear her narrate it!! Well, that’s one of the reasons.
Comment below and let me know why you’re interested in listening to book 3 of the Amplifier Series. For example, a fav character or fav scene or fav situation that you are looking forward to hearing. Or …? Any other reason you like audiobooks! I’ll select THREE winners by random number generator.

Oh, and full disclosure, the audible links are ‘bounty’ links, so if you aren’t an audible member and you sign up for a membership via one of my links I get a kickback. Just FYI.
ONGOING. The Amplifier Series begins with the prequel, The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0).
They called me an amplifier. And they had bred me, raised me, and trained me to be a killer with preternatural precision. I was capable of taking, holding, and transferring power that wasn’t my own with a simple touch. Skin-to-skin contact. Along with four others of my generation, I could infiltrate any magical organization, extracting whoever or whatever I’d been ordered to extricate. Then I could destroy all evidence of our passing presence.
They had made me. They directed me. Controlled me.
Then they tried to kill me.
Thus begins the Amplifier Series. But, at the beginning of book one, Demons and DNA, Emma (aka Amp5, aka Socks) encounters an obstacle she cannot vanquish with a simple touch (although she seriously tries): love. Aiden, a dark sorcerer, stumbles upon Emma at the absolutely lowest point in his life, drained of his magic and missing all memory of the previous three days. Together the amplifier and her sorcerer confront their entwined pasts, choosing to stop running and put down roots in a small town despite the darkness that keeps knocking – literally – on the front door.
The Amplifier Series features kick-ass magic and even cooler characters, including Paisley the demon-hybrid dog.
Close to Home (Amplifier 0.5) is set seven years after the events of The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0).
I hope you enjoy a glimpse into how life has evolved (is still evolving?) for Emma, Christopher, and Paisley!
This novelette is also bundled with The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0).
Reading order, including short stories:
The Amplifier Protocol (Amplifier 0)
Close to Home (Amplifier 0.5)
Demons and DNA (Amplifier 1)
Bonds and Broken Dreams (Amplifier 2)
Mystics and Mental Blocks (Amplifier 3)
Amplifier 4 – coming Summer 2020
FYI – to avoid spoilers – The Amplifier Series is set in the same universe as the Dowser, the Oracle, and the Reconstructionist series. CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL READING ORDER.
The Amplifier Series is available in eBook, paperback, and audiobook.
