The fog across the water was delightfully thick and the ferry heavy on the horn as it crossed back and forth between islands this morning. I threw on a light jacket for our morning walk and revelled in it almost being fall! Being an October Libra, autumn is my fav time of year.
Breakfast smoothies and muffins have been consumed, the laundry is going, and Michael is out in his studio doing some recording.
Having to brave far too many cobwebs, I dug through the cupboards in my old office shed (no, I haven’t yet cleaned it completely out yet), and found way, way too many half-filled notebooks, including at least three partially written series that I’m about to combine into one new universe (in 2027).
Happily, I also found the old notebooks for Misfits 2! And I’m in the living room now with sunbeams creeping across the floor and a pile Misfit paraphernalia scattered across the kitchen table (not all pictured below).

I jotted down a few notes on Conduit 4 because I plan to finish the first draft this week, but I today I’m playing aka cobbling everything together that I have already written for Misfits 2. It’s a little less than I like ā I was hoping to just ‘dust’ it off as a ‘side’ project, but alas it will definitely take more work than that. So, with Conduit 4 and Archivist 3 being my main focus for the rest of the year, Kandy’s book will have to be something I work on intermittently.
I’ve never written a first draft in sections like this, but we shall see how I get on, because playing ā aka just enjoying the process of creating ā is something I really feel is missing for me. And has been for more years than I feel like admitting.
Having Sisu to balance Dusk (while I’m writing Archivist 3) will help, of course, but I’m hoping that having a ‘low stakes’ book on the side (aka a Misfits book) will as well. The Misfits books are ‘low stake’ because they’re really only for true fans of the Adept Universe, not necessarily entry points for new readers.
ANYWAY! That (above) is a lot of rambling when I have notebooks to excavate for Misfits 2 info. I will report back when I (FINALLY) have a first draft of Conduit 4 to celebrate. We already have a trip into Vancouver booked for next weekend, and there is definitely no better reward than that!
Also, I’ve run out of chocolate so ā though it’s such a hardship š ā I’ll have to restock.
Oh, Molly is getting those four teeth removed tomorrow (I think I mentioned it in one of my last newsletters?). Three of the four are ‘difficult’ removals, so I’m sure to be fretting and distracted until I hear from the vet that she’s come through the surgery.
Please send calming thoughts.
For me.
I’m sure Molly will be fine.
š Have a great week!! š
