Misfits 2, Chapter 1, Part 4

I’m deep in the Conduit 4 second draft as I watch over my Molly Millions (she’s starting to feel better but hasn’t eaten yet) so it’s just short excerpt this week (& the end of Chapter 1). I really only managed to glance at it once before posting, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!

Reminder: typos abound, and possible tense changes. Anything in [parentheses] needs to be fact checked or I’m not happy with the phrasing yet.

This is Kandy’s book, Mistaken Loyalties (title subject to change) (Misfits 2)

Start here: Misfits 2: Chapter 1, Part 1

Or if you’re behind, here is Chapter 1, Part 2, and Chapter 1, Part 3

Content warning for mild explicit language. Please remember that this is Kandy’s book. Therefore it’s not going to be all that sweet. And yes, eventually there will more than just gentle smooching.

The frosted glass arrivals door whooshed open and an exceedingly tall, broad-shouldered male strode through. Sky blue eyes already fixed on me. Though there was no way he’d picked up my individual scent among the humans and the three other werewolves. With large black leather duffle bag slung over one shoulder, his  tousled light blond hair haphazardly spilled over his wide brow as if he’d run wet hands through it. A toothy grin sliced through chiseled features that had probably been too pretty when he’d been a boy but were more arresting than handsome as an adult.

He was wearing a dark blue suit. The tie loosened, and top button of his dress shirt unbuttoned. All official. Like me. It was the first time I’d seen him more formally attired. And though the suit was slightly crumpled from the ten hour flight he’d just endured, he wore it well.

His nostrils flared. Undoubtedly taking in the scents of the humans and werewolves alike, though he kept his attention completely fixed to me. Like a hunter. I might not be prey but that didn’t mean he didn’t like the chase. Or even being the one fleeing through the forest on occasion, in human or wolf skin.

And yes, I knew.

Intimately.

He was all muscle and bone and sinew under the civilized lines of that suit. A werewolf through and through. Again, like me. ‘Fastest in his pack,’ he’d told me the first time we’d spoken. He’d busted through a heavy wooded door at a prestigious London college just to lay eyes on me.

I’d arrived early.

I’d been waiting for him.

And he’d known it, even though I’d never picked him up from the airport before. He’d sensed me even before stepping through the doors.

Jorgen Andersen. My Norwegian wolf. My Ulv.

Exactly what I needed.

The three East Coast enforcers homed in on the nordic wolf striding toward us.

Jorgen didn’t give them even a passing glance.

I held up the sign I’d had tucked behind my back, flipping it right side out. I’d scrawled across a piece of thin cardboard I’d torn from the top of bakery box in black marker:

[Will trade fucks for treats.]

Jorgen threw his head back, laughing huskily. Then drew his own arm from behind his back with a flourish, presenting a massive chocolate bar wrapped in gold-foil. Dark chocolate and almonds.

Smart wolf.

I took a single step forward, already reaching for the chocolate bar.

He moved — yes, faster than me. Dropping his bag at our feet, he reached around the back of my neck, lifting me up onto the very tips of my toes and holding me there with only the press of his fingertips to my skull.

So it was like that then.

I canted my head back, welcoming the claiming kiss. He smelled of soap, coffee, and that deep, male werewolf musk that I only really found sexy on his skin. His warm lips ghosted mine, playful instead of bruising. I nipped at him but he evaded me.

“Take me home,” he demanded, refusing to fully close the kiss. His English was lyrically accented but perfect. Likely better, more educated, than mine and I spoke no other languages.

Tease.

“Tired?” I asked mockingly.

He hummed contentedly, nuzzling his scratchy cheek across mine. Marking me with his scent. He reluctantly loosened his hold, allowing me to settle back on my heels. And only then did he glance at the other three wolves.

Dedra was unabashedly staring at us. Fists clenched, pink points of ire highlighted her cheeks. Fuming. At Jorgen’s obvious dismissal, because there was no way she gave a shit who I kissed.

“Dedra,” Jorgen said, smoothing his hand down my back to briefly cup my ass before stepping slightly away. “Bill. Tig.”

The two male enforcers nodded, chiming. “Andersen.”

Jorgen settled his gaze on Dedra. “Is Arthur in town then?”

“Alpha Rothchild is on his way,” Dedra snapped. “We’re to secure rooms and scout —”

Jorgen waved his hand, cutting her off. “Already done, I’m sure.” He glanced at me. Curling his lips into a friendly open smile as if he wasn’t in the process of firmly putting Dedra in her place.

A place that put her below both me and Jorgen. He was one of three arbitration members who were in town to assess the pack status application that the Yukon grizzly’s had filed.

I picked up his duffle bag, striding away without another word as Dedra struggled to figure out how to assert herself without totally blowing it. She might think she could get away with pissing me off because of our previous affiliation, but interacting with the nordic wolf was far more complicated. Jorgen was highly placed in our world, but he wasn’t pack. He wasn’t even afflicted with any North American packs.

Still Dedra was a conniving, political beast. She wouldn’t want to show him her belly, that would be unbecoming of a East Coast pack enforcer, but she’d want to keep her interactions with someone like Jorgen as cordial as possible. Just in case she could use him in the future.

Jorgen nodded at the other wolves, following me.

Ah, werewolves games.

I hated playing them, but I had no problem with Jorgen screwing with as many of our so-called guests as he wanted.
