  1. “Well, if that wasn’t the kettle talking smack about the pot, I don’t know what was.”
    – Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic
This quote just made me laugh out loud; love it! 😀
Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  2. “You don’t happen to fear water or heights, do you?” I asked without looking at him. “No. Why?”“I was thinking about jumping and wondering if you’d just follow.” The vampire threw his head back and laughed.
Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic
I love it when Jade makes Kett laugh

  3. I smiled at him. “Yeah, I’m cute and quick. Just not particularly smart.” “Indeed,” he agreed. “You should have left me in the alley. You’re foolishly fearless, Jade Godfrey, warrior’s daughter.” “See?” I said flippantly as I crossed back to the native-carved cedar door that led to the bakery. “We’re getting to know each other already. I’m cute and fearless, and you’re obsessive and grumpy…in really tight pants.”
Shadows, Maps and Other Ancient Magic – Dowser book 4.

Can’t wait for the book this week!

  4. “I might be able to walk away from sexy, dangerous shifters, but chocolate had me at its beck and call.”
Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic

  5. watching me bake was like watching an adept witch work a spell. Flattery will get you treats from me every time.

  6. “Losers weepers,” Desmond said.
From Trinkets, treasures and other bloody magic. It was very playful of Desmond who is serious more often than not. I liked his more playful side….big Desmond fan if ya can’t tell from the last quote I picked lol

  7. “You might be surprised.”
    “I never am.”
“Never is sort of a long-term word, even for a vampire.”

Jade & Kett in Dowser 1. And then, in Dowser 3 Jade tells Drake:

“You’re hanging with me, kid,” I said “‘Never’ just went right out the window.”

There’s a couple times where she says similar things. And I love it. Never is not a word to use around Jade. Always expect the unexpected!

  8. “Desmond’s chest momentarily blinded me. Even in the low light, it was magnificently muscled. Too bad he was such an asshole. Why did assholes have the best chests? “-Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic. This just made me laugh out loud when I read it. Why DO assholes always have the best chests? Can’t a man be sexy AND nice?

  9. Dowser 3:
“Jesus… Mother of God,” Blackwell breathed.
“You’ve got that backward, asshole,” Kandy said.
    I just like Kandy’s comeback!

  10. “I figured the best way to make friends with a dog was to feed it. I hoped that held true for werewolves.”

This line made me giggle for a long time

-Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic

  11. “That’s what you do, Jade Godfrey. To express your feelings. You bake for the people you care about.”
—-Shadows, maps and other ancient magic.
I love how quick he is to try to convey his feelings for her in her language. it’s special when someone goes out of their way to learn something just to tell you how much you mean to them.

  12. We were all crafted by our choices, after all. Even the ones everyone knew were wrong. From Dowser 2.
    Truer words were never spoken.

  13. Trinkets treasure and other bloody magic where Desmond says losers weepers its a side of him we don’t get to see a more playful side I love it

  14. “Warner caught my eye. His smile was softer, more tentative now. ‘That’s what you do, Jade Godfrey. To express your feelings. You bake for the people you care about.’ ‘You’re learning my language.’ ‘So I can communicate effectively.’ His grin widened, smoldering on the edges again. ‘Yes, but I gather that’s obvious.’ ”

Shadows, Maps, and other Ancient Magic (Dowser #4)

‘Cause I’m pretty sure that I’m in love with Warner. 🙂 This contest is FUN!

  15. Yep, no follow-through. Man, that bothered me. What was the point of innuendo and flirting that never led anywhere? I was a downer tonight. I took a sip of the hot chocolate, then sucked all the melty whipped cream off the top. Ah, that was better.

Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic ( Dowser #3 )
Glad that Jade has chocolate in her life. Now, perhaps Warner? Pretty please!

  16. “I didn’t wet my pants, but I was glad I hadn’t drunk anything all afternoon. Usually I was an eight-glasses-a-day sort of girl.”

Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic

    I can totally relate: marypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com

  17. “The costomer looked familiar, like maybe he’d been in the bakery a few times before. The vampire, however, was new. What the hell was a full-blood vampire doing in Vancouver anyway?”
That makes me laugh everytime I read it. She’s just doing her normal everyday thing then bam, there’s a vampire outside her window. From book #1 Cupcakes, Trinkets, and other Deadly Magic

  18. “I raised my knife, then plowed face first into a large block of dense ice…Freaking Kett had just broken my nose” Dowser 2
Good analogy of Kett’s physique, cartoon comedic visualization, & his disregard for Jade’s physical pain just because she can heal herself.

  19. “That’s easy. You’re Jade. You’re cupcakes, trinkets, and deadly magic. Like that knife you carry. Pretty green stone, tasty magic, and deadly.” Kandy in Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic … I love these “basic/simple” statements that Jade’s friends make, that just put everything back into perspective for her.

I find something new to love every time I reread these books … Thank you for giving them to us … ♡ HUGS ♡

  20. “I’d nicknamed him McGrowly – in my head – because he scared me and I needed to make him at least sightly ridiculous somehow.” From Dowser #2. This makes me laugh when I think about Jade and Desmond and how she deals with her very real fear of how dangerous he could be by giving him a funny name.

  21. “His utterance of my given name flooded through me like the tingly warmth that
came from sipping great champagne. You know, like panty remover.” -Dowser #4. This quote made me giggle so much I shook the bed and woke my husband! (Oops) I love Jade’s sense of humor when it comes to the men.

  22. From Treasures, Demons, and other Black Magic (Dowser #3)

He brushed his fingers through my hair, and something broken in me healed.
“With or without the bond, I’ll always be able to find you, Jade Godfrey,” he whispered against my lips, answering my unasked question.
“I’m glad you’re alive,” I said, still clutching his shoulders. I was slightly worried now that he was just an apparition…

…”You hightailed it off into the forest without an explanation,” Desmond said as he stepped through the trees. “And I follow, only to find you wrapped around a vampire.”
This statement – as much as Desmond’s utterly disgruntled tone – reinforced my laughing fit. Kett joined me.

I love this scene because it shows Kett and Jade have formed a bond that is deeper than just magic, something Jade feels like she is lacking. I feel it also shows how much Jade has grown physically and magically, being able to outrun Desmond long enough to have Kett save her from her own foolishness as well having a conversation with Kett before Desmond shows up; and possibly foreshadows Jade and Desmond’s relationship becoming more distant as well as showing Kett is more of a match for Jade than Desmond will be – magically, physically and friendship wise.

My other favorite scene from this book is the very last one, but I won’t quote it in case someone else wants too. 🙂

    1. I also love in I See Me: “Eat,” Jade repeated, but this command wasn’t directed at Beau and me. Desmond snarled, then reached to the side and plucked a cupcake out of the open pastry box. This one appeared to be lemon cake with lemon icing. He stuffed the cupcake into his mouth without removing the wrapper. Beau, kept his arms wrapped around me, carefully peeled the paper of his cupcake. I glanced around. Both Lara and Audrey were moaning as they consumed different types of cupcakes as well. “The werewolves are all eating cupcakes,” I said. “Yeah,” Jade said. “They do that. Though why we needed to stand on ceremony just now, I don’t freaking know.” This last part was directed at Desmond, though Jade didn’t turn to look at him. “The fledgling knows his place,” Desmond said. “Bully for you, Desmond,” Jade said. “How could I forget that going around frightening people is your full-time gig?” The alpha responded by angrily stuffing another cupcake in his mouth.

      1. I love I See Me! I love all the Dowser books too, but seeing the same world through someone else’s eyes – someone who didn’t grow up knowing about the adept world – is great! And seeing characters we know and (mostly) love through the filter od someone else is enlightening. 💙

  23. The vampire was gone. I was nowhere stupid enough to step out onto the sidewalk to look for him … okay, maybe just a quick peek. The sidewalk and street were empty of vampires, though.

Cupcakes, Trinkets and Other Deadly Magic

This makes me smile every time, typical Jade 😝

  24. “There’s a reason for everything,” I murmured.
“So you have been listening during your lessons with Chi Wen, warrior’s daughter, ” Drake said with a grin.
“Nothing happens without purpose. It is just the why that is obscured.”
Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic #3
I chose this because it is so true for life in general and I love Drake’s philosophical side.

  25. It would be a shame for you to die. I would do anything in my power to save you. Don’t make me save you, Jade.

Dowser 2 : Trinkets, treasure and Other Bloody Magic

This line stayed with me throughout the book. Shows how much Kett “treasures” Jade in his own manner

  26. The bitch saved my life. She’s going to be totally insufferable about it.

From Treasures, Demons and other Black Magic

Kandy’s snark always makes me giggle.

  27. Do have I have to keep repeating myself? I asked as I drove my elbow into his sternum. “Don’t. Touch. My. Things. Or my friends.”

This is from the 2nd book.

I love it, because it confirms where her loyalties lie and to who. She has a huge heart, that she shares with all kinds. It’s awesome.

  28. “You make deals with guardians you can only hope to uphold,” he said. He didn’t sound accusatory. Just matter-of-fact.

“Thankfully, all we ask in return is her very best,” Pulou said.

(I really love the way you are portraying the guardians in this series, and hope we get to see more of them–I love how incredibly varied they are, despite being ascendant beings.)

  29. “Kandy slipped through the window into the rhododendron bush outside. Then she reached for Mory.
I had a slightly more difficult time getting through without ruining my dress. So I didn’t have the hips of a teenager. I’d never heard a single complaint from anyone who had his hands wrapped around them.”

The subtle reminders that Jade isn’t the perfect stick-thin Barbie type is comforting. She’s relatable, and sneaking out the window during a boring dinner makes her even more so. Also, I love that Kandy is always more than willing to jump in feet first when Jade gets an idea in her head.

Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic – Dowser 2

  30. That’s your Jade. Your Cupcakes, trinkets and deadly majic. Like that knife you carry Pretty green stone, tasty magic and deadly .
Treasures , Demons and other Black Magic Dowsers#3
Love how Kandy always has Jades back and she tells it like it is.
Keep the books coming. I love them..but wish Jade and the Lord Wolfe would have hooked up

  31. Dowser 1
“A cool hand held my hair away from my fevered, drenched face. If felt good so I didn’t fight the touch”
I picked this before I think that’s it was the beginning of trust and friendship. Showing the empathy of a vampire to Jade while she is still a fragile “half something else” before she discovers her own badassness.

  32. “Ah, damn it. I’d left my knife in the zombie’s skull.” From Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic, page 110.
I loved this bit of fun after being so upset over the death of Hudson.

  33. This is from Dowser #2. The quote just perfectly captures the badass that is Jade.
“Don’t let the blondness fool you, fledgling. The witch stabbed a 900-pound grizzly in the ass today. She just keeps her claws better hidden and painted pink”

  34. “There goes sleeping together,” I said, trying to bring some levity into the conversation, into my beleaguered brain. “That’s crazy talk, downer,” Desmond answered. “I plan on bedding you, well and often. just as soon as you invite me.” “Oh, yeah? The ball is in my court.?” I asked, seriously thinking of closing the door, tossing the tray, and testing the out the strength of the desk. It looked sturdy. Desmond grinned. ” From the moment I laid eyes on you.”
    From Trinkets,Treasures,and other bloody magic.
I love the back and forth between Jafe and Desmond and the hint of what may be… But never is!

  35. “She…I can still taste her magic,” I continued. “She’s still here. Please. I would do anything. I would trade my life for hers if I could. Please.”

    Dowser 4
I’m rereading in preparation for Dowser 5. This brought me to tears, again! Just shows how how attached I’ve become to these characters.

  36. “Give him a chance,” Kandy said behind me. “The sentinel. He’s no Hudson, but he’ll do.”

I cried when Hudson died and that relationship was off the table. Then I totally shipped Desmond and Jade, but now they absolutely HATE each other. I was real hesitant about Warner. I wasn’t even sure he was going to be a love interest for Jade, but now that he’s made her black forest pancakes and everything. Plus Kandy and Gran are pushing for it. But what if he ends up evil?! Must read on!

  37. “It’s like you and Kett had babies,” I said, my mouth full of insanely good goodness that tasted almost exactly like Kansy’s and Kett’s magic combined…except sweeter.
“That’s disgusting,” Kandy sneered. Then she lifted her plate and kicked it clean…literally.
Treasures, Deamons, and Other Black Magic.
I’m kind of hoping for little Kett and Kandy babies.

  38. “Diplomacy?” I asked.
    “Yeah.”
“I can see that,” I said and didn’t bother stopping the renewed leakage at the corners of my eyes.
A side glance at Kandy showed that she too wasn’t as tough as she pretended…or maybe Hudson had just been worth the tears.

-Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic

It always gets me when she remembers him an all the could have beens (I can really relate) and I’m glad she keeps remembering him, unlike some series where a character dies and everyone forgets they existed Hudson stays with us. It’s one of the many reasons I love this series.

  39. I choose “Train, learn your magic. You will walk among the humans once again. But not today” Chi Wen to Jade Godfrey from last part of Book 2, Trinkets Treasures and other Bloody Magic.
I choose this quote because it made me want to read the next book, especially as it meant Jade had more to learn & the books more to offer. It also shows that to learn new things, you have to train a lot & it takes more than a day to do so.

  40. I always love it when Kett laughs, so this is one of my fav moments!

“Wake up sixteenth century, and smell the progress. It kind of tastes like freedom, doesn’t it?”
“Freedom is just the moment before disaster falls. ”
Kett started laughing. Warner whirled to look behind him, but still couldn’t see the vampire.
“Not helping Kett.” I called. “And Warner, I’d be careful. Talk like that will only endear you to the vampire.”

So good! It makes me giggle! Thanks for the chance to win!

  41. “It’s like they know me here,” I whispered into the phone. “It’s on the edge of creepy…except there’s dark chocolate. Chocolate can’t ever be creepy.”
    Dowser 5
I love the way Jade and Kandy talk with each other.

  42. “Hush, youngling,” Kandy said. “The elders are being inappropriate.”

Treasures, Demons, and other black magic (book 3)

I was having a real bad day and this made me laugh hard as it seems a phrase to be said around here ALOT lol
