Dowser Series: new book covers

I contacted Elizabeth Mackey about doing a book cover for the upcoming Dowser 7 last week. At same time, I mentioned that I’d been thinking about revamping or rebranding all the covers, but that I was hesitant to do so because the books had done really well with the lighter, simple covers.

Then I just left it with her – no guidance or specific image ideas or anything. And Elizabeth, with her killer eye and sense of all things graphic design, decided that an extreme rebranding probably wasn’t necessary but maybe the series just need a tweak, a freshening. A bit more depth and little more magic.

This is what she came up with. And I love it.

You know my favourite part? Well, of course you do … MORE CHOCOLATE!!

I’ll be rolling out all six covers over the next couple of days. And soon … so soon now, it will be time for the cover (and title) reveal for Dowser 7!!

Oracle 1: book cover rebranding

I’m exceedingly pleased to announce that the Oracle Series has been brilliantly rebranded by the ever talented, Elizabeth Mackey. I asked her to pull the covers more inline with the Dowser and Reconstructionist Series, emphasizing the magical/fantastical elements, and I believe this new look does exactly that.

I’ll be rolling out the new book covers across all retailers/sites over the next few days, but here is a first look at I See Me (Oracle 1). I hope you love it as much as I do!!

Spirit Binder: rebranding and a sale

I’m officially ‘releasing’ a rebranded version of one of my very first novels – the standalone fantasy, Spirit Binder – and launching it along with a week long $0.99 sale, starting today.

For this rebranding, Elizabeth Mackey worked her magic on the cover, Pauline did a freshening proofreading pass, and I prettied up the interior with Vellum. The story/plot itself has not been edited/altered.

Spirit Binder is a tale of prophecy, destiny, divinity, and romance set a thousand years after spirit (aka magic) has risen to take back the world in an apocalyptic event.

Only $0.99

Dowser Series: ‘Cake in a Cup’ T-shirt and a giveaway

GIVEAWAY CLOSED. Winner: Lucky #45, Avanti from Indiana!

Last but not least! Cake in a Cup!

This logo makes its appearance in the Dowser series (of course), but the actual T-shirt is due to show up in I See You (Oracle 2). Here’s a sneak peek of the scene:

Chi Wen, the far seer of the guardian dragons and my old-as-ass mentor, had apparently decided that his typical gold-embroidered white robes and sandals would stand out too much in Yachats. So he was now clothed in a baby blue, oversized short-sleeved T-shirt emblazoned with a fuchsia pink Cake in a Cup — Taste the Magic logo. The shirt hung almost to his knees, his cargo pants ended at his lower calves, and he was wearing black combat boots to complete the ensemble. – I See You (Oracle 2)

Three guesses as to who dressed Chi Wen. 😛

The logo also appears in Jade’s bakery in the Dowser Series, as well as on Blossom’s apron in Dowser 5!

Note the chocolate cosmos. 🙂

I made the ‘Cake in a Cup’ T-shirts available in white printing as well as pink printing in the maximum colours I was allowed by the retailer (five). They are printed on fitted American Apparel T-shirts and THEY FIT SMALL!! Elizabeth is wearing an XL in the picture, and she usually wears a medium. I knew this about the American Apparel T-shirts (I also wear an XL) but I really like the fabric and the flattering fit. The site suggests going up a size – based on their sizing chart I’m a large – so please check the sizing.

Oracle Series: ‘Chicken Butt’ T-shirt and a giveaway

GIVEAWAY CLOSED. Winner: Lucky #9 Michelle from New Jersey!

So just to add another glitch in this T-shirt launch week, the design I intended to release today has disappeared from Amazon. Yep. It’s been there for over two weeks all ready to go and now it is gone. The helpful people at Amazon Merch are looking into the issue, so hopefully it will be available by Saturday. Or I’ll have to re-upload, not sure yet.

So … we are out of order then. Skipping over to the Oracle Series.

… *SPOILER ALERT* … … *SPOILER ALERT* …… *SPOILER ALERT* …

This is Elizabeth’s and my interpretation of the ‘Chicken Butt’ T-shirt that Kandy wears to visit Rochelle and Beau in I See You (Oracle 2).

Beau stopped a few feet away from Kandy. She eyed him but didn’t change her stance. She turned to look at me, dropped her folded arms, and nodded. “Oracle.”

I swallowed. “Kandy.”

Her goldenrod T-shirt was printed with a picture of a chicken and the question, ‘Guess What?’ in green lettering. A red arrow was pointed to the chicken’s back end. Someone had used a black fabric marker to add a second arrow that pointed to an additional squiggle of black just behind the chicken.

Kandy also wore three-inch-wide gold cuffs on either wrist. These were inscribed with symbols and edged with hundreds of what looked like tiny diamonds. They were like something that belonged in ancient Greece, not on the skinny, muscled arms of a werewolf.

“I don’t get it,” I said, with a nod toward her T-shirt.

Kandy’s grin widened. “The shirt was a gift from the dowser, but it needed a little something.”

“Chicken butt,” Beau said. “Guess what, chicken butt?” His arms were loose at his sides, but he’d widened his stance as if he was expecting to be attacked.

“Guess what, chicken shit?” Kandy added. Her answer was full of laughter that was more threatening than joyful.

Also there is one more T-shirt design to come, so you may wish to hold off any purchases until you’ve seen them all. 😀

Dowser Series: ‘Attempted Murder’ T-shirt and a giveaway

GIVEAWAY CLOSED. WINNER: LUCKY #51, CASSIE from TEXAS!

A couple of months ago, I decided I wanted to do an extra fun giveaway for the release of I See You (Oracle 2). This idea involved Elizabeth Mackey designing a T-shirt that appears in the book. Then I decided if I was getting Elizabeth to design a T-shirt I might as well make it available to anyone who wanted to buy it.

And if I was going to take the time to figure out where to get T-shirts printed (etc), then why not get Elizabeth to do up three designs?

Because three is always better than one, right?

Well, yeah!

In this case, at least. 😀

So without further ado, this is Elizabeth’s and my interpretation of the ‘Attempted Murder’ T-shirt that Jade wears to go dancing in Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1).

I pulled a hand-painted silk jacket over my ‘Attempted Murder’ T-shirt — it has two crows on it; think about it — and a pair of Seven jeans. The jacket was the nicest and most expensive thing I owned. Sienna was out in the living room chatting with Rusty, though I couldn’t specifically distinguish his voice. They sounded far, far away, and I thought then I might still be shocky despite the hot shower. I strapped my knife back at my hip and took a deep breath.

It was just dinner and dancing. – Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1)

By the way, the flowers in the design are the chocolate cosmos that Jade grows on her balcony. And, as I reveal the designs for the next two T-shirts, the cosmos will show up again. Yep, branding. 🙂

N.B. If you do choose to grab a T-shirt for your very own, please DO NOT buy the T-shirts appearing in the also bought section on the Amazon page. Those T-shirts are not actually supposed to be available for purchase, the logos are too large. There is a currently a glitch in Amazon’s system that they are working to resolve.

Also there are two more T-shirt designs to come, so you may wish to hold off any purchases until you’ve seen them all. 😀
