Dowser Series – three paperback proofs

Guess what arrived in today’s mail? The paperback proofs for Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1), Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic (Dowser 2), and Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic (Dowser 3).

I absolutely adore these three grouped together! As I did for I See Me (Oracle 1), I chose a matte finish for the covers and I think it’s perfect.

The covers – front and back – were designed by Elizabeth Mackey.

The inside is also perfectly pretty. Mark over at 52novels designed the interior layout and Elizabeth Mackey designed the knife image for the page breaks.

Printed on February 10, 2014, this paperback will soon to be replaced with a new edition (with the new cover). Same story inside though 🙂 And again, that doesn’t make the front cover, by Irene Langholm, any less pretty.

I’d be happy to sign it, with or without a specific inscription.

Dowser Series Cover Reveals

I’d been thinking about rebranding the Dowser series for awhile, and knowing I was about to publish the third book in the series this seemed like the perfect timing. I adore Irene Langholm, who has done ALL of my book covers up to this point, but together we thought another cover designer might bring some lightness or playfulness to the covers.

And so entered Elizabeth Mackey.

We went with simple, strong branding – chocolate hues, of course – and I really, really love them.

I know, I know you want to see the third book!! How about a teaser and a cover reveal date to tide you over?

As previously mentioned, four new cupcakes appear in Jade’s bakery, Cake in a Cup, during Trinkets (Etc). Jade attempts to create two other types as the story progresses, but is unsatisfied with the results. If you like reading into a character’s actions, the four successful cupcakes paired with the two unsuccessful will let you know a lot about Jade’s mindset in Dowser #2.

These are Cozy in a Cup and they are my FAVOURITE are recipe from Dowser #2. They’re insanely good! I might just have to make a batch today. I really shouldn’t blog while hungry!!

Comfort in a Cup

Here is the first of four new cupcakes that appear in the second Dowser book, Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic. Which, BTW – nine days ahead of schedule – is now available over on Amazon (because Amazon rocks – ha!)

ETA: Jen just asked in the comments if the cake could be baked in cake pans. The answer is yes. All the cake recipes posted to the blog can be baked in cake pans instead. The icing recipes also yield enough to ice a cake.

Directions I gave Jen: Grease and flour two 8 or 9 inch round pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean from the centre). Cool for about ten minutes, then pop the cake out of the pans. I have this trick where I line the cake pans with parchment paper (I trace the cake pan on the paper then cut out a circle). I grease and flour the pan, but then I lay the parchment in as well (then pour in the batter). After you bake and cool the cake, you gently run a knife around the edges, and pop out the cake – easy peasy – then peel off the parchment paper.
