CHAPTER EIGHT – important beats:

  • The bike – Beau gifting Rochelle with freedom
  • BLACKWELL!!! “A dark-haired, dark-suited man walked through the entrance with not a drop of rain on him.”
  • And what does Blackwell want?
  • Heartbreak … if Beau can see and ‘interact’ with Blackwell, then Beau is just an elaborate hallucination. Which Rochelle allows herself to believe because why else would someone like him be with her? If not for the fact that he wasn’t real?

Favourite Quotes

Jesus, my mind was wicked. Brilliant but wicked. To have conjured someone so complex, as compelling and terrifying as him … Blackwell. – I See Me, Oracle 1, Chapter Eight

But … the hot apple juice was a lie. A lie of love whispered in my ear by my evil, broken brain. – I See Me, Oracle 1, Chapter 8

I See Me, Oracle 1, Chapter Nine

CHAPTER NINE – important beats:

Beau, Beau, Beau – beautiful Beau knows when he is over his head, when he perhaps hasn’t handled a situation properly and he’s not afraid to go for help/back-up.

More BG on Beau here. Hints of a nasty childhood … is it better to be an orphan like Rochelle or have parents like Beau? I pick neither 🙁

Rochelle thinks everything … the necklace, the Brave, and even Beau are all part of some massive hallucination. One she is unwilling to wake up from now that she ‘conjured’ Beau.

Favourite Quotes

“And you love me.” Beau was crying now as well, shaking with it. “You love me, without question. Like no one has ever loved me. Not because of how I look, or what you think you can get me to do for you. And you think it’s a lie. You think it’s a lie.” – I See Me, Oracle 1, Chapter Nine.

“It can’t be true,” I whispered. “That would be even crazier than I already am.”  – I See Me, Oracle 1, Chapter Nine.

  1. Your notes on 8 reflect my own – the heartbreak and confusion Rochelle feels when her visions manifest in front of her eyes, and curiosity around what Balckwell wants. What does he have that he can give her? And why would he trade “fairly” – he certainly hasn’t before.

“But … the hot apple juice was a lie. A lie of love whispered in my ear by my evil, broken brain.” I just want to cry… To have your world crash in in front of your face, not being able to escape from it – that’s intense. To be suddenly engulfed by a world that you don’t understand, that up until this point you thought be totally fake. Crazy people in your crazy head spouting odd terms. None of it adds up – therefore ‘I must be hallucinating all of this’. Watching her walk out without so much as a second glance at the damage done, or at Beau… Everything just solidifies in her despair.

9 – Watching Rochelle progress from “this is all in my head” to “well maybe it isn’t” was both frustrating and fascinating. Just seeing her mental process and walk around with a blasé attitude, knowing that things really are more than what she can begin to comprehend. Beau is so patient with her, and so understanding of the mental process that she’s having. He’s a real catch.

    1. I suppose Blackwell would think he has always been very fair in his dealings. 🙂

And Beau. Well, Beau is a amazing, but then so is Rochelle. They bring out the best in each other.

      1. Blackwell /would/ think that… the devious little… 😀

It’s true – they fit each other so perfectly.

I must say, this whole reading 1-2 chapters at a time is a real challenge. I want to just sit down and read the book like normal. But then if I do that, I’ll forget bits that I want to touch on in this commentary session you’ve presented. That or I’ll bring up things from future chapters and get all confused. 🙂 Thank you for doing this Meghan.

      2. I’m breaking the rules a bit myself. I’m a couple of chapters ahead but trying to work on other things at the same time – like brainstorming Oracle 2 – which is slowing me down. I’m enjoying this … Some times if not enough time has passed I can’t see the story with fresh eyes, but I’ve written two books between Oracle 1 and 2, so that’s given me space.

Thanks for hanging out with me. We’ve lost a few others, or they’ve gotten too busy … Or read ahead like you want to. 🙂
